Armed Forces / help regarding photo please
« on: Saturday 06 October 12 12:28 BST (UK)  »
Hello Everyone,
I am trying to find out which regiment my father in law was in in WW2.He lived in the London area so I am assuming it was a London regiment.
He was first in the territorial army and I believe the attached photo is of him during that time.
I wonder if anyone can help me to identify the cap badge please ?
Thank you
Kath

Thank you.
He was in the pay corps towards the end of the war.
I have an earlier photo of him which I will try to scan.
He was stationed in Egypt in 1941 in the intelligence corp but I do not know which regiment. He was brought home in 1944,as he was unwell and after he had recovered he worked in the pay corps
thank you for your reply

Armed Forces / Mystery Indian POW handmade cigarette case

I have come across a handmade wartime cigarette and matchbox case from the Prisoner of War Camp at Kirklee, India. It is a unique creation with hand carvings of birds,  circles, stars and moon etc. Looks like aluminium and carries the name of PERKINS - Prisoners of War, Kirlee, India.

Does anyone know when this may have been made, i.e. WW1 or WW2? And does the name of Perkins mean anything to anyone? Was he a prisoner or soldier at the camp. No dates shown.

Hello,
Thank you for your message.
If I was you I would try to ask your grandmother for any details about your grandfather before you try to find out any more. With only a name to start your research it will be nearly impossible to find concrete information.
His date of birth, marriage and death will all be a big help as would places for each. Even just having a rough date of any of these would be a great help as would his wife's name
Would your grandmother still have their marriage certificate ?
If she has , this would give both your grandfathers fathers name and his profession , all this will help.
I hope this is of help to you ,please do get back to me when you have some more information and I will see if I can find out anything for you or at least point you in the right direction.
good luck
Kath   :)
