Ireland / QUIN, Michael
« on: Tuesday 16 November 10 20:00 GMT (UK)  »
Born 20 Oct 1811, Ireland
moved sometime to Scotland
married Isabella HUMBLE (b. 20 Oct 1815 Prestonpans) 12 Jan 1840, Haddington, East Lothian, Scotland.

In 1841 census he was listed as a blacksmith, and was probably away on a job, as his wife was elsewhere on census night.

In 1842, with their son John Alexander QUIN, and a Mary Ann STODDART (who I'm not sure how she fits into family, but could be Michaels from a previous relationship) they emigrated to New Zealand.

From what I have researched so far, I see that many Quin's are concentrated in one area of Ireland, but apart from that I've had no luck locating him, or even whether he went to Scotland on his own or with other family members, etc.

Once in NZ he became heavily involved in the Presbyterian Church - perhaps this may give a clue?

Any help or ideas much appreciated.

Do you have any info for Wm and Susan of their ancestors?
We can share what we have.

Hi Marlowe
I lost all my emails recently so thats why I am contacting you this way, and I've just discovered I can't PM you until you've made three posts here.
I was just wondering whether you had any information or photos or documents you could share with me that would help fill in the gaps I have? (which you could probably see from the tree I sent you to compare with what you had) Any updates on more recent family members?
I was in contact with the Waipa District Council about the burials of William Thomas/Susan Tyler, but have had no luck finding where their son Raymond was buried - have you discovered that yet? And why he died so young? I am sure that William came from Wales, but it has been hard finding anything more on him there so far.
Thanks for any help you can give me. If I can help in any way with anything, please let me know.
regards

I had no idea she had moved to NZ, but I will chase that up now I know.
I would love to hear from you, so I'll pm my email addy to you and you can contact me directly if you like, and we can compare info. It took me ages to find this branch on the tree.

Thanks Adam - putting them up is no problem for me, I was just thinking to save you some work  :) But I will certainly store away for reference.

Headstones - what do you mean by 'health & safety'? Are there rules that the headstones cannot be touched or repaired? Surely they are part of the country's heritage and should be treated with respect...?  :'(
My country is so young, I think many of us are envious of the many centuries headstart you guys have  ;) perhaps thats part of the reason why we hunt so hard for ancestral connections to it all.

Yes, the Walton I have who married a Westgarth was born in the late 1600s, and I don't have any family members for her yet to know how those other Waltons might fit into her tree.

If those are the oldest in the graveyard then there are quite a few people without gravestones who died before that in Stanhope, as my Westgarths go back to the 1500s.

Once I have found information on the Walton family I would love to ask you for the transcripts  :)

I have managed to match up all but the last inscription on the list - yay!

As for the other names, I'll have to do some more digging first. They are spouses maiden names, but obviously the families are bigger than I anticipated.
Those Walton, Wilkinson & Nicholson one's are too late for the era's I am needing to look, but thank you.
Would there be any Clemison's in the Stanhope cemetery? There is some conflicting information regarding a marriage and I need to dig around to see which woman is correct.

Your help is much appreciated, from one stuck in the far side of the world ;)
