Glamorganshire / Agnes/Agnes Florence/Florie Frondo (b.c. 1878 Swansea)
« on: Sunday 24 December 23 20:04 GMT (UK)  »
This lady is driving me around the bend!

She marries Rees Thomas Jenkins on 14 May 1894 at St Mark, Swansea.  I have the marriage certificate and she marries as Agnes Frondo (writing is clear for the surname) and gives her father as Antony Frondo, a Ship Rigger.

In 1901 they are in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire (when she uses the name Florie) and by 1911 and 1921 they are back down in Swansea where she uses Agnes Florence.  She gives her place of birth as Swansea on both census'.

She dies in 1925 in Swansea as Agnes F Jenkins, born 1878.

Before she marries Rees, I can find no trace of her, even with her saying she was born in Swansea.    I have a note she had siblings - Margaret, Edward and Thomas - but I managed not to record the source  :-[

If anyone can find her before 1894 I would be grateful

Thank you  :)

Blimey  - that is one "tangled web"

Tell me about it!  ;D She took a lot of unpicking

She lived with John and William Knowles at the same time and William Knowles and William Powell at the same time too by the looks of it  :o

Thankfully the Knowles brothers’ causes of death were natural…  ;D

William Powell & Emma Knowles only married Sept qtr 1881.  Can you post details of the 1881 entry you mention above

IGNORE - just found them

Don't worry - Emma's relationships are a little complex....she married one brother John Knowles, when he died she shacked up with his brother William Knowles (but said she was married to him)

When William Knowles died she lived with William Powell (who registered William Knowles' death  :o), claimed to be married to William Powell on the 1881 census but didn't marry him until later that year.  Furthermore...William Powell was Emma's sister Anne's widower.

Elizabeth is with husband Efrem Hoare in 1881 plus Ellen & Frank.  Also a son of Efrem & Elizabeth Charles T Hoare

Charles Ephraim Tooze baptised as son of Elizabeth Tooze, single woman on 30 November 1878. She must have married Mr Hoare after.

and Fred, baptised 20 July 1873, also Ottery St Mary.

So that's potentially 4 illegitimate children?

actually can that - 5 now?

there is an Emma born of Elizabeth Twose, single woman, baptised 25 December 1864 Ottery St Mary.  Gives address as Butts

Ruth is this the record on GRO with no mothers maiden name, named?

Many Thanks

Hi
yes, it is - its just a line but the baptism I've just posted gives an address of Yonder Street where he was living when he was baptised so the certificate might not give much more

The original baptism is on Findmypast.

James Lee Tooze was privately baptised on 22 November 1861 and was born at Yonder Street, Ottery St Mary.  No father and Elizabeth is described as a single woman.

Private baptism might suggest he was unwell at the time and done urgently.
