Please can someone point me in the right direction?
Where can I find directories for Dublin in 1934 and the surrounding years?
I need to look up an address of "4 Murphy's Cottage Baggot Street".

Thanks very much,

Dublin / Rathfarnham in 1933 - Convalescent Home
« on: Thursday 10 October 19 21:19 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

My grand-aunt went to a Convalescent Home in Rathfarnham in 1933.
No other details are known.
Any thoughts on how I could find out the name of this home?

Thanks very much,
Glen

Europe / Pontevedra, Galicia, Spain
« on: Sunday 14 July 19 15:51 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

Is anyone familiar with place names in the Pontevedra area of Galicia, Spain?
I have an old marriage certificate and the Groom is from "V?????(unreadable)-Cazina". Does anyone know what the place name beginning with 'V' would be?
Also, is nearby Creciente spelt as Creciente or Crecente or Ribera-Creciente?! Seems to be multiple spellings of the same place?

And any tips for researching family history in this corner of the country?

Thanks so much!

Dublin / 33 Percy Place, Dublin - Directories/Electoral Rolls
« on: Tuesday 28 May 19 19:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi All  :)

In 1939, Mary Brennan records her address as 33 Percy Place, Dublin.
Does anyone know where I can find Electoral Rolls and/or Directories, to find out how long she lived at this address?
If possible, I'd also like to find out the names of the other Household Members.
Is any of this available online?

Thanks so much,
Glen

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / "Cause of death" in 1895
« on: Friday 26 January 18 21:54 GMT (UK)  »
Good Evening All,

I have a couple of queries regarding a "Cause of death" on a death certificate from 1895.

Can anyone tell me what "349.a." means please?

Also, the letters "M.R.C.S.E."?

The full cause of death reads as follows:

349.a. Pneumonia
3 Days
Complicated by childbirth
Certified by F.T. Wilkinson
M.R.C.S.E.

Thanks very much!
Glen

P.S. I wasn't sure whether to put this here (because the death took place in Aldershot) or in the Common Room  ???

Good Evening All,

My grandmother and I came across some old photographs. She believes the young woman is her mother (my elusive great-grandmother).

Please can I ask if someone could date this photograph please? (If it helps, we believe my great-grandmother was born in 1891).

I've tried looking for other clues in the photo, which might help us pinpoint where it was taken. I was unable to find anything online regarding the photographer "John J Quinn", however we think that she grew up with an aunt in Blue Bell Hill, Kent, England.

I was also unsure why "My Word" would be written and displayed outside the house. Can anyone shed some light on this?

(If anyone is interested in further details, you can read about my family tree brickwall here!.... http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=535847.0)

Thanks so much!

Armed Forces / Photo - Which Regiment?
« on: Tuesday 12 December 17 16:28 GMT (UK)  »
Could anyone tell me more about this photo? Which Regiment? Where could it have been taken? What year could this be?

I believe it's probably one of the following:

1. 38th Dufferin Rifles of Canada (c1911-14)
2. 1st Life Guards (1915-1916)
3. Gloucestershire Regiment (1916-1918)

They are the three that my ancestor belonged to.

Does anyone recognise the uniform?

Many thanks!
Glen  :)
