Canada Lookup Requests Completed / Clisbys In Canada - COMPLETED!
« on: Wednesday 16 September 09 00:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi guys,

I don't have full access to Ancestry (hoping to get it as a xmas pressie) so i can't view all the records.

Could someone please lookup Harry CLISBY born 1875 in Tranmere, Cheshire, England.  I have 3 Ancestry hints for him

Canadian Soldiers of WW1

1916 Canada Census of Manitoba, Saskatchewen and Alberta

and the Canadian Passenger Lists 1865- 1935,  although I downloaded a list at http://members.shaw.ca/nanaimo.fhs/V056.pdf but wondered if the Ancestry says any different.

Thanks in advance.

Christine

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) Lookup Requests / Susannah GARFORTH b 1818 but where?
« on: Monday 14 September 09 14:05 BST (UK)  »
Susannah GARFORTH born abt 1818 in Hull ( I think).  This is a confusing
family to say to least. I have the wedding certificate of Susannah and her
father is Thomas GARFORTH, Thomas was born in Bramhope and his wife
Elizabeth was born in Otley, Yorkshire.
Now, according the various censuses Susannah could have been born in either
Leeds or Hull.  I have scoured the Parish records in Leeds for the birth of
Susannah but to no avail so this is why i am asking for help.
Susannah married Frederick Crossland in Holbeck in 1843 and they were living
in Middleton, Leeds.

1851 census - states she was born in Leeds
1861 can't find her anywhere
1871 States born in Leeds
1881 states born in HULL.

The only connection with East Yorkshire that i can tie in with Susannah is
the birth of her nephew, William Garforth in 1841 in Whitby.

Could it be that Susannah was just being awkward when she said said she was
born in Hull on the 1881 and i'm barking up the wrong tree.  lol

Also posted this on the West Yorks forum.

Sussex / I need a favour please.
« on: Saturday 12 September 09 20:30 BST (UK)  »
I have searched the web for a good photo of Lindfield Parish War Memorial and cannot find one anywhere.

I'd particularly like a shot of the whole thing and a close up of the inscription to Frank Douglas Beales who died on the 10th January 1941 whilst serving on the HMS Illustrious.

If you can help then please let me know and i'll pass along my email address to you.

Thanks
Christine

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Who?
« on: Monday 07 September 09 00:23 BST (UK)  »

It's the 2nd up from the bottom.

He's been transcribed as Ledichich but i'm thinking the name starts with a Z. I also thought that might have been a K at the end but the K is very different from the one in Blacksmith.

Thanks for looking.

Added:  Now i've seen it again on here it looks like a H at the end but for the life of me i cant make head nor tail out of it.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Help untangle this mess please.
« on: Sunday 30 August 09 18:26 BST (UK)  »
Please can someone check out this family and unconfuse me.

In 1841  I have Joshua Greenhough born Batley abt 1794 married to Jane along with 3 children, Hannah 20 (1821), Joseph 15 (1826) and David 15 (1826). The family is living in Bradford. All are born in County.

In 1851 Jane has died and Joshua has remarried to Elizabeth (Maiden name Woofenden born West Ardsley 1806). Joshuas children to 1st wife on this census are:

D or L  Greenhough Daur or Daur in Law 21 (1830) born in Bradford
Jonhn Green  28 (1823) Blacksmith born in Bingley
Thomas Green 25 (1826) Not able to work born in Bingley, Deaf and dumb
Sarah Greenbush  Daur  8 (1843) born in Beeston

In 1861 Joshua has died and Elizabeth is on her own with the kids, including:

Jonathan Green 34 (1834) Blacksmith born in Bingley, Deaf and Dumb.

Now to the nitty gritty!

On the 1871 Census Jonathan Green is still lodging with Elizabeth but there is no mention of him being Deaf or Dumb.

Could this Jonathan be the one in the 1851 Census listed as son but surname is Green? Strange if it is as he kept this name throughout the Censuses.  Was he deaf and dumb or was it Thomas?  Was Thomas added by mistake by the enumerator?

D or L Greenhough in 1851 Listed as Daur. It looks like an L to me but if it isn’t and it really is a D, could this be David and the enumerator had had one too many.

Sarah Greenbush!!  I think it’s Greenhough and it’s possible that she’s the G Daughter of Joshua and Elizabeth but if she is who are her parents?

And last but not least do you think the enumerator was tuppence short of a shilling?

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Baxendale Wedding in Chorley.
« on: Thursday 25 June 09 19:19 BST (UK)  »
IGI info:
William Baxendale and Jane Blackburn married in Chorley 28th March 1776.  As far as i know the Parish registers for St. Laurence church in Chorley have been badly damaged and illegible. Is it possible someone could look at the Bishops Transcripts and see if there any parents for William and Jane ?

I have emailed a couple of peeps on Ancestry who also have this information but as yet have not had a reply back.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Fitty

Norfolk Lookup Requests / DALLIDAY of Banham
« on: Monday 20 April 09 16:37 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for the birth of Esther DALLIDAY born about 1813 in Banham.  I think her father was William but am unsure of her mothers name.  William married his 2nd wife in 1813 so i need to know which of his wives is Esthers mother.

Esther went on to marry William TITE/TIGHT.  I have this record.

Thanks very much

Christine
