Hi Law,

I am also from John's marriage to Ann then  their son Thomas Brisbane Brown and so on.  I am absolutely speechless with this info that you have - it is just marvellous.  All this time I had thought John was British. I would love to make further contact if possible either by email or phone or chatroom.  Would that be possible.  I am very appreciative of the fact that you made contact.  I have a photo of either Ann Buckley Brown or  Anne McMillan Brown -(Thomas' wife).  It is one of the girls but dont know which one.  Have photos of of a couple of children back then - one died of Diptheria (from memory).

Hi and thank you for making contact - I have a photo of John Sly (Junior)taken in America with his niece and descendants.

I haven't touched the Sly family for a while.  Mainly because Nobody had made contact for a while.  I presume you are in Australia.  I am interested in learning what I can.  Have you been able to look at all of my previous postings.  If not, I can fill you in on my descendancy.  If you would like to make contact by email, please let me know.

Hi Cas,

Thank you for the reply and confirmation.. It is great to get have someone take a look objectively.

As I am in Australia - and never yet been to the UK - I am also not familiar with these areas.  Would you know what or where the Butlers Building is or should I do  a new post/topic for it.

Thanks  again

Hi,

WOW - you have solved a problem for me THANK YOU ever so much.  Looks like I was wrong thinking Mary Ann  had maiden name Mellish.  She is indeed a Potter.

I think thst she may have been a twin - but... I have her baptism register for St Mary Magdalin Bermondsey in October, 1797 - listed next to each child on that page i another date.  Am I correct in assuming that is the birth day and month?  It is listed like ths

1796
May 2nd    John Thomas    Son of John & Mary Potter  Clerk - Bert or Buth - cant decipher area
May 2nd     Mary Ann         D  of John and Mary Potter Clerk  - Ber   "       "        "

Would this mean they are twins?

Thanks again for your help

Hi Chris,

Thank you so much for that information.  When I got Mary Ann Lanes' death Certificate from the UK, it says her name "formerly" Potter.  I had always thought that her maiden name was Mellish and they were married in 1835.  However,  .

Mary Ann Potter was born in 1797 which makes her quite old if she married in 1829 to John William Lane.
I am going to have to check if perhaps she had been married before to a Potter and indeed she maybe a Mellish.  Thank goodness I got her death Certificate.  Would the parish record have on it if when was a widow or married previously?
