Hi -

My first post here, but have always been amazed at the work you do!

Would love some restoration, if possible, of this photo of Great Grannie Harriet with my father.

I have attached a file < 500Kb - here is a link to the larger version of the same photo:

Thanks in advance!

Ok.  Sorry, I am not familiar with Derbyshire research and did not realize.  Since it is for a friend, I am not planning on ordering the cert.  Thus, I guess I am out of luck.  Thanks.

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / Rochefort Ball Marriage Lookup
« on: Thursday 24 March 11 13:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hi -

I would be very grateful if anyone has a chance to look up:

Christopher Rochefort
Margaret H Ball
3rd quarter, 1915
Chapel en le Frith, Derbyshire
Vol. 7b, page 2025

Christopher should be born about 1894, the son of Julian John James Rocheford/Rochefort.  I have a candidate for Margaret in the 1901 census (will have access to the 1911 tonight).  Potentially the daughter of William and Alice Ball living in Ashover.  I'm most interested in finding the name and occupation of Margaret's father.

Thanks in advance!

Kent / Re: Chemical Works Near Bexleyheath in 1920s

I suppose I should add that I've seen several options in the Kent directory for 1913 including:

Burroughs, Wellcome & Co, Phoenix Mills, Dartford
Dartford Chemical Works Limited, Victoria Rd, Dartford

All the other options from 1913 seem a bit out of the way.

Kent / Chemical Works Near Bexleyheath in 1920s
« on: Tuesday 04 January 11 15:06 GMT (UK)  »
My great grandparents were married at the Dartford register office in June 1921.

The groom, Albert Pratt, is listed as a "mixer at chemical works."  His home address is 5 Ash Place, Erith Rd, Bexleyheath.  The bride also resided in Bexleyheath prior to the marriage.

Any thoughts on how to find out more information about possible facilities or his employment at one?

Thanks in advance for your help!

A few thoughts...

Re: Rosie who is visiting Isaac and Mary on the 1891 Census.  Isaac is given as being 40 years of age; Rosie as 36.  Rosie's occupation is given as a machinist in 1891.

I assume you also believe Rosie is Isaac's sister - she may be the one enumerated on the 1861 census as Rachael (who is given as b. 1857).  Isaac's age is quite accurate at 10 in 1861 if he was given as 3 mo. in 1851.  It's possible that Rachael's is a bit off.

Have you seen the 1881 Census for the Morris Samuels household? RG11/872/91 p 14 in Gravesend, 19 John St.  It contains Morris (62), Sarah (28), Rachael (22), Isabel (20), and Joseph (16).  This puts her date of birth ~1859.  This Rachael's occupation is also given as a machinist.

Also, forgive me for perhaps stating the obvious, but you may not have too much luck in the CityArk parish records, since I would assume the family is Jewish (or at least up until a certain point in time).  Maybe you will find some useful resources on JewishGen's UK site:

http://www.jewishgen.org/JCR-uk/England.htm

To that end, a Hebrew name could have easily lead to variations including Rachael and Rosie - I see very similar variations in given names in my tree from census to census.

Thank you!  I am headed to the FHL next week so I will consult the original of this.  The Sundridge record is also on my list.  I appreciate the help.

Hertfordshire / Article in Herts Advertiser
« on: Wednesday 16 June 10 17:11 BST (UK)  »
Wondering if anyone frequents the St Albans library and would be willing to look up an article on microfilm in the Herts Advertiser St Albans Times.

The article pertains to the death of Rosina Mary Whetham Cole, wife of John Henry Cole, of 8, Hedley-road.  The death occurred on 29 Dec 1906.  I have a transcribed fragment of the article but it is undated, untitled, and incomplete.  Likely published the same week as her death, however.

Please let me know if you would be willing to do this and I can provide additional identifying information about the content of the article.

Thanks in advance.
