Other Countries / Flora Augusta Goad Heavens ( Calcuta )
« on: Thursday 16 December 10 16:07 GMT (UK)  »
I have a Flora Augusta Goad Heavens, she was the last of 7 children the first 6  were born in Kent or Croydon . I have her Baptism Cert 5/8/1865 from  St Pauls Church Umballa Calcuta India .
Her father was a Harness Maker/ Saddler, Frederick Heavens B 1839 in UK
What would he have been doing out there with his wife in 1865 , if he was in the Army were there any conflicts at this time and would he have had his wife with him .
Rumour in the family was that he was Harness maker to the Royals , was there a royal visit in 1865.
Whatever he was doing the family did not stay long in India .
Any thoughts or ideas as to why a Humble Harness maker would be in India for just a few years .

                                                         Thanks Roy

The Common Room / Penalties for commiting Bigamy
« on: Thursday 09 December 10 14:59 GMT (UK)  »
My Great Grandfather William Henry Hutchinson married Mary Oxley 27th Aug 4th 1883 Edgbaston Warwick .
In June 1894 he married as Henry Hutchinson a my G Grandmother Eda Lobeck in Cardiff. He was still married .
I have divorce papers from Mary Oxley , she divorced him May 1895 for adultery.
He remarried Eda lobeck in St Pancras July 1897 .
How serious was this , would he have gone to prison, or fined, any way of finding out. What was normal penalty for commiting bigamy . And was it unusual and expensive for a woman to take the action of divorce in those days.

World War One / Not on War Memorial (WHY)
« on: Monday 29 November 10 17:24 GMT (UK)  »
My Great Grandfather James Frederick Nelson Beeching died at Ypres 4/8/1917 .
He was a stage carpenter before the war and joined up to the Kings Royal Rifles , he was born and raised in Stockwell Lambeth London .
He was in a trench when it was blown up and was never found , he is inscribed on the Menin gate memorial , but he is not on the war memorial in Stockwell.
Is this normal not to be on a local memorial, Any views or help. Also how do i find out where the regiment was during aspects of the war.

                                               Thanks Roy

The Common Room / Reasons for No Death on BMD
« on: Wednesday 07 July 10 13:31 BST (UK)  »
What could be reasons for no death record on BMD .
For example if somebody died Scotland , Isle of Man , Jersey and Channel islands and other offshore islands
Died in a conflict and was buried abroad, What about if they died on board a ship during a voyage . Murdered and no body found what happens then.
Is there any other reasons.

                                             Thanks Roy
