London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: London Marriage 1857-61 Look up
« on: Wednesday 27 July 05 09:06 BST (UK)  »
Hi Sandra,

I can find them on the 1861 and 1871 censuses, but it didn't help so far with finding her maiden name. Emily does seem to be the oldest child though (unless any earlier ones have died).

In 1861 they are living in St Pancras at 68 ? ? ? St. RG9/122 f12 p21
transcribed as Prock...but from the image it probably reads Procter:

John Procter b. 1828 Northamptonshire, England Head, Carpenter
Eliza "  b. 1837 Middlesex, England Wife Dress maker
Emily " b.1860 Middlesex, England Daughter

In 1871 they are now in Hackney, this time transcribed as Procko (RG10/333 f32 p58)

John b 1830 Weedon, Northants, Head, Carpenter
Elija(pres. Eliza) b. 1837 Marylebone, Middlesex, Wife
Emely b. 1860 daughter Poplar Middlesex, Scholar
Frank b.1864 Kentish Town, Middlesex
Arthur b. 1867 Greatham, Hampshire
James Woodman, b. 1848 Edgeware, Middlesex, lodger, carpenter

So the marriage should be before 1860 I guess.

I'd agree with Andrea that your best bet would be to buy a birth cert. for one of the children as that would give you Eliza's maiden name.

Looking quickly on the freeBMD there is ths one that seems likely to be Emily:

Births Mar 1860

Procter Emily Sarah Poplar 1c 697

(The image is available on the freeBMD website so that you can double check the page/vol. no.)

Hope this is some help,

Could Layton be Leyton  or even Leytonstone?

They're both not far from Plaistow (I think)

Europe / Re: GERMANY: immigration/naturalisation

Hi Susan,

I was thinking the name Anspach sounded familiar, and looking up where it is it's not too far from the North of Frankfurt, where I was working until last Summer (I'm now not in Germany anymore so can't help with any look-ups unfortunately).

Having looked a bit on google there seem to be a few family history socities in Hessen who you could try writing to perhaps. Their webpages are all in German but they may also be able to understand English.
Hessen family history society:
http://www.genealogienetz.de/vereine/HFV/hfv.html
Details for family history society for Nassau and Frankfurt
http://www.genealogienetz.de/vereine/DAGV/mgl26.html
(I think it should be possible to find the e-mail/postal addresses alright on these without speaking German..otherwise ask one of us here on rootschat to PM it)

I also came across a site for the evangelical church in Anspach:
http://kirche-anspach.de/
There they actually have a section on family history; click on "gemeindegruss" on the left hand menu, then on issue "3/2005 Juni/Juli/August"

Then in the menu for that issue there is a section entitled "Ahnenforschung" (Origin? research).

This is also in German, but it basically talks about lots of people become interested in their family origins, and that there are parish records dating from 1660 in Anspach (originally in Latin, then later in old german).
They seem to have the records up until 1875 (after which the state kept the BMD records).

For people having ancestors coming from Anspach there is an address for enquiries:
Kirchenvorsteher Wolfgang Krämer
Evangelische Gemeindebüro
Friedrich Ebert Strasse 18,
Neu-Anspach 61267
 Telefon 06081/7948

There are still some Henrici's in Anspach....when I put in Anpach and Henrici the first thing that came up was the Henrici Metzgerei (butchers)....they also have an e-mail address....but I guess that's a bit of a long shot.

Best regards,

Emily

Hi again,

I"ve now seen your other post with the census details on....but at least I found the same ones :)

There is a birth registered in 1842 which looks like a possible for Williams father Jenkin:
Mar 1842
MORGAN    Jenkin    Newport M    26    96
This reg. district includes Mynyddislwyn

Hi Scott,

Thanks for the PM. Glad the wedding cert. ordering went well.

Have you seen this family in 1881 (http://www.familysearch.org/)

Living in the Greyhound Bargoed in Bedwelty, Mon are:

Jenkin Morgan Head Married Male aged 39 bn Mynyddislwyn, Monmouthshire Innkeeper and collier
Mary Morgan Wife M Fem aged 39 bn Mynyddislwyn Inkeeper wife
Margret Morgan Daug U F 14 bn Bedwelty
WILLIAM MORGAN U M Son 12 bn Bedwelty
Rachel Morgan Daug U F 10 "
Jenkin Morgan Son U M 8 bn "
Mary A Morgan Daug U F 6 bn "
David J Morgan Son U M 3 bn "

RG11/5249 f71 p.13

Was a Rachel Morgan a witness on the wedding cert.? It might well be that his sister was a witness and that his mother is indeed Mary.

In 1891 the family are still in Bedwelty, but Margret and William are no longer at home and there are two grandchildren with  Jenkin and Mary, Elizabeth A bn 1887 and Mary A bn 1889.

RG12/4360 f73.

Have you tried the freeBMD for the birth/marriage of Wiliam, Jenkin and co. ?
Its at: http://freebmd.rootsweb.com
There's also the 1837online website, but it's pay per view. It's complete though which the freeBMD isn't yet.

Having a quick look for your Morgans there seem quite a few possibilities for William Morgan births registered in Bedwelty (1 in 1868 and 4 in 1870). Births for 1869 don't seem to be complete yet

You might want to try the alternative route of ordering a cert. for one of his siblings; there seems to be just one Jenkin Morgan bn Mar 1873 registered in Bedwelty

MORGAN    Jenkin        Bedwelty    11a   135
which would seem likely to be Williams brother.

But as I said before the FreeBMD is not complete, so it's possible that there are others.

There are less possibilities currently for Marriages of Jenkin Morgans in Monmouthshire in the 1860's. It just came up with two, one in 1869 and the other (which should hopefully be more likely judging from Williams birth year is in 1866 ).

The entries for that page (Seo 1866) are:
JENKINS    Rees        Bedwelty  11a   117
JONES    Mary         Bedwelty  11a   117
MORGAN    Jenkin         Bedwelty  11a   117
SAYS    Mary         Bedwelty  11a   117

Leaving two possible Mary's unfortunately. You should probably hope that it's not the Jones one.... :)

Hope this is some help,

Best regards,
Emily

Norfolk / Re: Charlotte Curtis
« on: Thursday 14 July 05 07:59 BST (UK)  »
Hi Twiggy,

I can't help with any census details I"m afraid, but I think the  Maundsley birth place of your Charlotte in 1881 should probably read Mundesley.....which isn't far from Cromer (it's also on the coast).
There don't seem to be any Curtis's from there either though in 1861, so probably Cromer is your best bet in searching for them.

Hi Graham and Jenny,

Welcome to Rootschat. And congratulations on finding connections between your Morgons already.

If you want to exchange e-mail addresses with each other, the best way to do it is via the Personal Message system on Rootschat.

If you click on the green scroll-like symbol on the left hand side of a persons post (underneath their name) a window will come up where you can send a personal message to them. These can only be seen by the sender and recipient so won't advertise your e-mail addresses to the world.

Hope this helps and good luck with your Morgon search.

Best regards,

Emily
