Nottinghamshire / Gent - Bulwell
« on: Saturday 11 April 09 23:54 BST (UK)  »
I will hopefully be visiting Bulwell on Easter Monday to see where my husbands Paternal family started. I know that some of the Gent Family were Baptised at St Mary Church Bulwell.

I am hopefully going to look around the churchyard but wondered if anyone could tell me if the church would be open and if they have any records there and of anywhere else I might be able to get information.

I believe there could still be Gent's living in Bulwell which could possibly be relatives.

The Common Room / 1911 - brick walls bigger
« on: Saturday 17 January 09 22:38 GMT (UK)  »
Is anyone finding the same as me? I thought the 1911 census would knock down a few brick walls but in a lot of my family it is making them reinforced concrete instead  >:(

My Paternal Grandmothers Father is mising from the household and I can't find him, his wife is down as married and I know it is the right family as they are living in the place my Grandmother was married from and I did get in touch with Exeter archives to see who the householder was and was told Thomas Jeffery I have also found on 1912 PO directory he is still the householder.

Also my Grandfather on my mothers side is getting younger not older  ;D

When he married in 1909 he was 23 but in 1911 census he is 22.

I was hoping to sort a lot out on the Jeffery family but again they are alluding me. I knew I did not stand a lot of chance on my mums family with the surname Smith, but we can all hope can't we  :D

I have found out that my Uncle was a Bevin Boy during WW2, is there any way of finding out where he was in the mines. None of my relatives know.

Armed Forces / Frederick Smith WW1
« on: Friday 24 October 08 20:57 BST (UK)  »
I have been looking on Ancestry for my Grandfathers pension records but can't seem to find them. I have not got much information but wondered if anyone could help or give me some pointers of how to find the records.

Frederick Smith b. c1885 I think he was born in Warwickshire/Staffordshire.

When he married in May 1909 he was not in the Army but I have been told he served during WW1 but was medically discharged as he was found to suffer from Phenesha? Anemia.

On my Mother's birth certificate in 1920 his occupation is down as Grocer's porter, Army Pensioner and I have been told by relatives that he was an Army pensioner.

I know when he was in the army he was married to Alice Smith (nee Young) b. 1887 and had 2 children, Robert Frederick W Smith b. 1909 and Marjorie Eileen Elizabeth Smith b. 1914 and they were living at 4 The Barracks Whitnash Warwickshire.

The only other thing I know is that his father was George Edward Smith and when Frederick was discharged from the Army he became a Postman.

Any help at all would be appreciated.

The Common Room / Hugh Wallis IGI WARNING VIRUS - Fixed
« on: Wednesday 08 October 08 21:00 BST (UK)  »
I just want to warn everyone I have been on the above site and have had 3 virus warnings. I was on it a few days ago and got the same thing but could not be positive it was from that site as I had been on a couple of others but tonight I have only been on there so it is from that site.

Luckily I have a good virus program so please everyone be careful. It is really a pity as I was hoping to get the information I need from there.

For Sale / Wanted / Events / Wanted - Microfiche Divider Guides
« on: Friday 12 September 08 12:57 BST (UK)  »
I have tried all over to get these so I can seperate microfice into counties and places. The only cards I can find are index cards which are 6" by 4" which are not high enough or 8" by 5" which are much to big.

I have found some in America which would be perfect which are 43/4" high and are made for dividing microfiche.

Anyone know where I can get them in this Country?
