Hello Jen,
Thank you very much for taking the trouble to look up my Hamptons. It's very good of you.

William Hampton, the head of household in 1881, is indeed the two year-old William in Swansea in 1851.
Thomas, aged five in 1881, was my great grandfather.

Wiliam senior, the one born in Worcestershire, married Eliza Thornton - from Merthyr Tydfil I believe - in St Mary's Church, Swansea, in 1835, so I did rather hope to find them on the 1841 census, somewhere in South Wales. They were living in King Street by 1848.

I'd like to know whereabouts in Worcestershire William came from. I have found some possible candidates, but nothing more than that.

As for a link with those other Hamptons - that is what I have been wondering. Is there a connection - or perhaps not? If anyone is researching that line - and knows the answer, I'd love to hear from them.

Thanks again.
All the best.

Hello,
'Hampton' is not a common name in South Wales, but there are just a few families with that name.
Ours originated, apparently in Worcester, or at least in Worcestershire.
Our Worcestershire William Hampton was probably born in around 1813. He went to Swansea and a number of his desendents still live in South Wales.
Since it isn't a common name, I'd be very interested to hear from anyone else researching it.
I was wondering whether William travelled to South Wales alone - or perhaps with a relative? Perhaps one of these other Hampton families is related? Although, they seem to have been members of a higher social level at the time.
All the best.

Hello everyone,
One of the names that my family and I are researching is 'Svombo' along with all its many variants.
This name seems to have originated in Hydra, an island off the Athens area of mainland Greece. Where it came from before that is a matter for conjecture.
Some people with this name now live on the Greek mainland or on other Greek islands; some emigrated to America; and one - Nicolas Svombo- travelled to Cardiff, via Ireland (probably Queenstown, Cork)
Nicolas married an Irish girl called Ellen Barry and had a son named Lasaros, before moving to Cardiff in Wales. Now many of his descendents still live in South Wales, while others live in North Wales or in England.
We have a fair amount of info that we could share with interested relatives and would love to hear from others. Any new details - and especially photos, would be much appreciated. It's always good to keep in touch with relatives! And very special to get to know long-lost cousins!
All the best!
