Hi Crisane,
Thankyou for your information, about Hugh Chapman, My 2 x great grandfather, Frederick Chapman, who's father was Hugh Chapman. thankyou to let me know that his wife was Hannah and the children. I will have a look at the census, also Elizabeth Chapman, aged 9 in the 1851 census. I wondering is Hugh chapman was parish clerk, is he was working in the parish church at Old Cleeve?

I would imagine the only way to discover if Hugh was a layman worker at the Old Cleeve parish church is to find out if the church still exists and whether any old church records still exist.
yes the church does exist and dates from the 12 century (see Wikipedia)
The church's web site is here http://www.fivechurches.co.uk/
There are contact phone numbers.

Hi Crisane

Thankyou very much for the information about the church's website and the wikipedia. I will have a look at it.

My 3 x great grandfather Hugh Chapman, born 1797 at Old Cleeve, Somerset, (baptist 29th October 1797 at Old Cleeve. He was working for the parish clerk for 50 or 56 years at Old Cleeve. Have you got any information about him at the Parish clerk in Old Cleeve. His death was 19th September 1875, aged 75 years. Do you know what his wife name was?  maybe Sarah??
