Yorkshire (West Riding) / Jane Roughton mother of Reeves
« on: Saturday 01 January 11 21:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Folks
William and Jane Roughton had a son called Reeves in 1895 who died in 1897 in Rotherham (4 other children died too out of nine). I'm trying to find Jane's maiden name. I worked on the surmise that it was Reeves as it was customary for a mother's name to be used for a son in this way but I cannot find a Jane Reeves born Rotherham 1862/3 (1901 census) or a marriage between William and Jane. I suspect that they weren't married although they had all these children. I am particularly interested in this name because my paternal families are Roughton and Reeves who all lived in Doncaster and surrounding towns (with others in Saltburn) and I'm trying to make a connection from my line to this couple.

Are there any Rotherham records that I could look up please?

Australia / Walter REEVES

Anyone researching Reeves of Launton lines through Yorkshire? At least one, Walter E born 1864 in Steventon Berks. son of Henry and Caroline Reeves (my g.grandparents) left Hull (?) Yorks following the death of parents around 1911 to emigrate to Australia to work in an opal mine. Sorry to be so sketchy but I'd love to find him. This was a railway family in the 2nd half of 19th century and they moved around the UK settling eventually in Doncaster, Hull and Grimsby.

Thanks in anticipation

Glamorganshire / Horrell/Reeves

My Uncle Montague W Reeves (1869-1922) had a liaison with Sarah Horrell (1903- 1933) that produced a son Gethyn (1919-2000) born in Derbys where Monty also died. Gethyn has two daughters who are keen to trace their grandmothers grave somewhere in the Merthyr district. She went on to marry so died as Sarah Drayton. As there are living relatives who do not want to persue Sarah's past is it possible that there is someone who knew her (maybe friends or other relatives) who passed information on? The daughters do not wish to intrude - they just want to learn more about their grandmother.

Wales / Adams/Hunt

My grandmother was registered as Sarah Jane Adams in Neath 1880 but she was illegitimate and her fathers name was Hunt. Problem - was it the other way round? My grandfather Isaiah Jones was a strict Methoist and their marriage (1902) implies that she married as Sarah Adams. Her first child Winifred (born in Wales 1905) has Adams on her birth certificate but my mother's has Hunt on hers! I know that she was adopted out but to whom? Adams or Hunt? They started married life in Wales but moved to Doncaster, Yorks where my mother was born (1913). Can anyone throw any light on this. I'd love to know more about her.
