Armagh / Re: Loughgall - Looking for the Allen Family
« on: Saturday 16 June 18 05:03 BST (UK)  »

My Allen line also came from Loughgall and I can trace them back to two Allens of different families:
Henry Allen (wife Mary) b. abt 1801, d. 27 Jul 1889 Clovenden, Loughgall and their daughter in law, Jane Allen (parents unknown but were also Allens), b. abt. 1840, d. 8 April 1897 Fernagreevagh, Loughgall, married to Henry Allen (1845-1906), son of the previous Henry and Mary.

My question is:  are there any records available (preferably online since I am in the US) which may help me link or disprove this connection?

Do you have the civil registration of Henry Allen and Jane Allen? That should give you Jane's father's name and possibly other good leads and you can buy the image online.

There were so many Allens in that immediate area and they intermarried which makes it tough to figure out even with records and DNA. But there is lots you can find if you're thorough and patient. One of the great things about family history as a hobby is that even the wrong turns and dead ends can be interesting and educational.

Tyrone / Re: Pringle Family
« on: Saturday 16 June 18 04:04 BST (UK)  »

2 SARAH JANE PRINGLE b. 1831
m.
REV. JOSEPH RAINEY b.
Sarah was the 5th child of Thomas & Sarah J. (Morris) Pringle of Tyleadon, Co Monaghan.
They lived in Benburb, Co. Tyrone.

Based on the 1852 civil marriage, I have the Sarah Jane Pringle who married Joseph Rainey as the daughter of Michael Pringle and Sarah Jackson of "Sallyvale" Grange Parish, Armagh.

They had a daughter Sarah born c. 1862 who went to the US and married William Kirkland who was also from the Benburb area.

There seem to have been a lot of connections among the Pringles of Tyrone, Armagh, and Monaghan.

I have this family (and several related or likely related families) in my database. It would help to know your direct ancestry as far as you know it (names, dates, locations) and that of the person you matched to. If it's about living people or it's personal then feel free to send me a private message.

I do have this couple in my research but not as Catholic so I might have something wrong and I'll have to look into that. I have them in Unshina (various spellings).

I have good evidence there were an Arthur Mercer and Anne Chapman in Unshina and they were Protestant. Arthur Mercer was a successful linen manufacturer with a large family.

Does her marriage record say she was from Lisnafeedy? Marriages were usually in the bride's church and Marlacoo is an odd fit.

I have a lot of Lisnafeedy Frazers in my database but not the Anne Jane born 1833. Can you tell me what you have for her and I'll see if I can line her up with a family?

I also have all the other Frazer families I've found from Eglish and Clonfeacle Parishes.

I have several Johns and an intermarriage so it's a bit complicated...

I believe these Frazers went to Eglish Parish Church which has surviving records going back a lot further than most Irish churches and they're on LDS film.

Hi raidersrule, I don't have that Greenaway/Greenwood-Dunbar/Barr certificate. I just found it indexed on familysearch.org while looking at Greenaways and knew it was the Greenwood family of this topic.

Greenaway was a much more common name than Greenwood in that area. My extended family actually has both Greenaway and Greenwood connections.

I have a lot on the family of Robert Johnson and Sarah Reed of Castleraw and I believe their daughter Mary was the wife of George Robinson of Ardmore but I don't have conclusive proof.

I would suggest focusing on the Robinsons who you know are your family and see if that might lead to a Johnson connection. George and Mary had a large family of at least 2 sons and at least 6 daughters and researching their descendants in detail may open up new leads and evidence.

I would discount that Ancestry tree with a Mary Robinson of Ardmore marrying an Isaac Stevenson. It was probably copied from Armagh Families by Thomas Stothers which I have found to be a good source but this time it's wrong. It says this Mary and Isaac had a son Joseph who married Anne Jane Neill. I traced this couple and found HER parents were Isaac and Mary while Joseph Henry Stevenson's parents were actually John Stevenson of Derrytrasna and Jane Robinson who was indeed a daughter of George and Mary of Ardmore. That document says that Joseph and Anne Jane's daughter married a distant Johnson cousin William J Green and names descendants. If you find that line you may find evidence of the Johnson cousin connection and they just got some names mixed up.

Armagh / Re: John Ruddell 1849 - 1953 - Portadown area

gpanderson, I think you need to make 3 posts before you can send messages. So just chat a bit more on rootschat :D

I'm glad you bumped this thread. I have the Alexander side of this family in my tree and I'd be interested in learning more about the Ruddells of Ballintaggert.

Does the grave say John Ruddell was 105? I don't have information about his parents or siblings so it would be nice to get a bit more on that.
