I must apologise for failing to mention that I had previously posted some info re Rachel HILL.

It has been so frustrating not being able to connect her to her birth family.

I really appreciate the time and effort members have made to try to assist me.

Many thanks.

LH,

Many thanks. We (Cousin in NZ) have done research on Joseph but found nothing concrete.

We've never been able to find which Richard was really ours.  Your suggestions have been most helpful.

My great grandmother Rachel HILL married William Robert HELMAN in Dublin in 1867. Have M/C andD/C  for Rachel and William and all relative info re their children. She was born c1840 and died 1874.

What has eluded me is her birth record. I know from M/C her father was Richard HILL a farmer.

Both Rachel and William were connected with Newbridge House, Donnabate.

Have been searching for years without success. A Joseph HILL was employed at Newbriddge and  George HILL was a witness to the marriage. Have researched both these withiut finding a definite connection to Rachel.

Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Gaffy,

Thanks for your "speculative answer" to my question.

I appreciate your thinking out of the box as it were.

Here in our area in Australia we have many towns and villages with names that have aboriginal origins.  Without local knowledge, many of these would be impossible to pronounce and even harder to interpret.

I live in MURWILLUMBAH (Place of many possums), UKI, MULLUMBIMBY, TUMBULGUM ETC are nearby; so your thoughts on "hollow of the  pigs", sits comfortably with me.

Many thanks.

Thank you ANNCLARE and HALLMARK for your comments. That's what I thought as it is quite a strange mouthful.

Appreciate your input.

I am looking for HANLEY (HANLY) family in Co Meath.

Found a 1803 Census scrap for Kentstown with HANLEYs mentioned.  It is headed LEGMUCK.

What or where is this?  Is it a village or a farm name?

Would love to know.
Many thanks in anticipation.

Thank you to those who have replied to my post.

My cousin has also looked at 1901 and 1911 Census returns and found Joseph and his grandchildren. She has also followed through on the children of Joseph and Anna = their marriages deaths etc

We have also found Anna's birth details in Switzerland. The suggestion she may have been in Ireland as a governess etc is quite possible.

RootsChat is a most valuable and helpful site.

Thanks Moderator.
My fellow researcher has suggested these:-  (and that it is a Swiss name)

RUEGSEGGER
RUGGSEAR
RUEGSEGGAR
RüEGSEGGER
RüESGSEGGAR

The umlaut ü seems to be part of the signature on the marriage entry.

Regards from OZ.

Hi Jan,

Many thanks for your interpretation.

I think you are correct in your conclusion.

It was certainly a strange " squiggle" !

Appreciate your efforts very much.

Greetings from Australia.
