Census Lookup and Resource Requests / 1881, God Son or Grandson?
« on: Saturday 01 April 06 06:34 BST (UK)  »
Hi

This entry from the 1881 UK Census has two boys listed as God Sons.  I believe that they are Grandsons and that the enumerator or the transcriber has made a mistake.  Has anyone got access to an image of the original census form for verification?

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / 1901 Census Hertslet name
« on: Monday 31 October 05 05:39 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I am trying to track down a man with an unusual surname so hopefully he won't be too difficult to find.  He is Lewis Eccles HERTSLET born 1877 London, Middlesex.  I can't find him in the 1881 Census but hope that he re-surfaces in the 1891 or 1901.  He became a missionary/medical doctor in Africa and might have been undergoing training in the early 1900s.  I would really like to have the details of his parents and siblings.

Regards,

Robin

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / 1861 Census Liverpool Orphanage Query
« on: Friday 17 June 05 20:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Here is a really tall order!

My Great Grandmother Lily LEE appears in the 1871 Census as a 14 year old, born in Liverpool.  She was adopted by Charles and Emma LEE and does not appear with them in the 1861 Census.  This implies that she was adopted some time between 1861 and 1871 and was possibly in an orphanage during the 1861 Census when she would have been 4 years old.

Is there a way of searching the 1861 Census for Liverpool for:

Lily (or Lilian or Lillian)
Born Liverpool
Aged 4
Inmate in an orphanage?

My goal is to try to find her last name before it was changed to LEE by her adoptive parents.

I’ve had amazing assistance with my previous requests for help but will be truly astonished if your experts can provide the answer for this one.

Hi

I would like to know the details of the other occupants of the household where Phoebe CROOK aged about 4 and born in Wandsworth, Surrey, lived during the 1891 Census.

She is believed to have been living with an aunt rather than her parents.

I would be very grateful for any assistance offered.
