Hi,

I understand that Saint Matthews church was completed and dedicated in 1746.
Could anyone tell me which church the people of this area would have likely used before this?

Many thanks,

Linda

World War One / re-enlistment in WW1 *COMPLETED*
« on: Tuesday 04 September 07 17:18 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I wonder whether anyone can help me?

I have found out that my grandfather signed up for active service during WW1 from the pension records on Ancestry.

It was purely a fluke that I found them, because as he was under age, he'd used a false christian name. It was only by the fact that it gave his parents names and address that I could work out that this soldier was my grand father.

Anyway, His father wrote to the army stating that he was under age and that he wanted him back. He was duly dicharged from the 5th Battalion Royal Fusiliers on 7th Sept. 1915, after serving for only 23 days.

My question is..... Are there any records that would allow me to find out whether he re-enlisted once he was old enough?

His name was Thomas James England, but he gave his name as Charles J England from Tottenham Middlesex.

I have his regt No. as 16844.

I know he served in WW2, but again I don't know how to find out about his service record.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Would someone please be so kind as to do a lookup for me on Ancestry?

I am looking for a Thomas James England born in 1899 in Tottenham (reg district Edmonton) Middlesex.

Doing a search, I have found 2 enties for a Thomas James England born in Middlesex in the WW1 'unburnt' records on  Ancestry, but unfortunately I do not have access to this site.

Hello,

Would somebody please be kind enough to look up a:

John Battram/Bartram (there are many permutations).

In 1861 he is listed in Kidderminster with is wife Harriet whom he married in 1853.....so he shouldn't be married in 1851.

He is a carpenter and he was born in Southwold, Suffolk in 1809, but in 1861 he gives his birth year as 1812.

I believe he may be in the Birmingham area.

Many thanks in advance,

Linda

p.s. Do I need to post this request on the Worcestershire lookups as well?

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Help with Pancras parishes *COMPLETED*
« on: Saturday 06 January 07 17:34 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

Please could someone help me with the many parishes in St. Pancras?

I'm looking for the parishes that would have been in existence around Stanhope street around 1860.

I have been looking on the Genuki website, and have come up with:

Christ church
St mary Magdalene
St Matthew
St James detached from Westminster.

All of these are from 1903 though. Would they have been different in 1860???

Are there any more I should consider? I am going to be looking for baptisms.

Many thanks

Linda
