Renfrewshire / catherine mc bryde

Hi everyone  Greetings from New Zealand  .Catherine Mc  BRYDE (ms Devine) was the sister of my grandfather. She married Alexander Mc Bryde in 1874 at St John's  RC Church . I have tried in vain using Scotlands People to  find a death for her in Port-Glasgow or Greenock.  The marriage record I have for her is a church one  which gives only the couple being married and the witnesses.  I also havent been able to find any children of Catherine and Alexander using statutory records.  Does anyone have Catherine and Alexander  MCBRYDE in a family tree? Regards Orkrad

i think it is Elspat. Also rendered as Elspeth in scots and Elisabeth in English.   There were Elspeths in my class in primary school in Scotland. it was not an unusual name many years ago !  orkrad.

Just a thought. The first word in line two could be neast/ neist if the writer was Scottish. The Dictionary of the Scots Language  defines neast as meaning next  to or nearest.  Would make sense in the context.  Regards Orkrad

It looks a lot like Harmond Suffolk. There is a Hammond Suffolk near Bury St Edmonds . Orkrad
