Armed Forces / Regiment in Preston 1874
« on: Tuesday 05 October 10 18:44 BST (UK)  »
Private Laban Looker.

I am tracing one of my relatives, Laban Looker, and believe that he died in Preston in 1874.  The death notice reads "On the 15th March 1874, at the barracks, Fulwood, Private Laban Looker age 34."

Does anyone know what regiment this would have been, or a way of finding out this information?  I am trying to find the cause of death.

Thank you

Lynn

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Clean and colour please?
« on: Monday 06 September 10 17:10 BST (UK)  »
I wonder if I could ask for a clean and colour on this pic please? As far as I can remember my coat was a darkish beige and my cousin's was a beige and green check (or was it brown check?!!). I have no idea what colour the berets were so I'll leave that to your discretion! Thanks!

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Anyone up for a challenge?

Can anyone restore this semi-derelict Chapel in Bilston back to something approaching its former glory? Obviously you'll have to use your imagination!
If possible remove background building and van and also wire guards over the windows.

Unwanted Certificates & Artefacts / Caroline Ward and Captain Henry Kent
« on: Friday 02 July 10 15:34 BST (UK)  »
I have in my possession a document entitled " Settlement on the Marriage of Miss Caroline Ward and Captain Henry Kent". The document is dated 15 October 1855. Henry Kent was a Captain in the 77th Regiment of Foot, later to become the Middlesex Regiment. He went on to become Lieutenant-General of the Regiment before passing, at the age of 95, in February 1921.

I have offered the document to the Regiment but, due to restrictions on space, it was declined. I would love to be able to pass it on to a family member, either Ward or Kent, provided some proof of lineage can be produced.

If all else fails, I will pass the document on to Wolverhampton archives.

This little beauty grew up to become my wife! (37 years and counting!!) Could she be restored, and possibly coloured? Hair colour very light brown, eyes blue. As for the dress, I'll leave it to you! Thanks

Anyone fancy a go at this one? It was taken around 1964 on board a
three-master which was docked in Cornwall between film shoots. I think it was the Hispaniola but could be wrong about that!

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / Abraham Kidd, Belper 1833
« on: Tuesday 01 June 10 18:29 BST (UK)  »

I'm looking for any information on Abraham Kidd, born Belper 2nd Aug 1833.
He was the son of my 3xGreat-grandfather Moses and his wife Catharine. I know he was christened on the 25th August 1833 but I can't find any info about him beyond that. His parents died in 1835 (Catharine) and 1837 (Moses). I have a pretty good knowledge of what happened to the rest of the family but Abraham is proving difficult!

This is me a young boy! (No Aaaahs please! Jim please take note!! ;D)
A little colour would be nice. I think the jumper was red, or that may have been that thing I'm holding, whatever it was - but I could just be having a "senior moment"! Feel free to play!!
