I wonder if I could prevail upon our brilliant restorers to have a go at this picture of some of Lynn's ancestors?

Dorset Lookup Requests / Newspaper Archives?
« on: Friday 31 August 12 23:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone has access to Weymouth newspaper archives. I'm looking for information on the death of Ernest Elwell who died in Weymouth in the first quarter of 1961 . I've got the relevant info from the England and Wales Death Index for that year. My query really concerns where Ernest was from. The age given on the death record fits with my Gt. grand uncle from Wolverhampton and is the only death I can find anywhere that fits in regard to age at death. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Shropshire Lookup Requests / William Farley - Revised Query
« on: Friday 02 March 12 11:06 GMT (UK)  »
I'm looking for information on the birth of William Farley of Dawley Magna. According to the 1841 census he was aged 50, although this could have been "rounded down", and was "born in county". I can't find any record on-line regarding a birth, but have a marriage in 1811 at Wombridge to Ann Rhodes, and a death recorded in 1844 at Madeley.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

The Lighter Side / Hi-jacked!
« on: Tuesday 28 February 12 17:47 GMT (UK)  »

I'm sure it's a problem many have come across but it just makes me MAD!

I went on my tree on Ancestry a few weeks ago and noticed that someone had copied photos of my Grandmother. Not a problem as they are there for all to see - and copy if they wish. Thinking this might be a distant relative, I wrote to say that I was willing to help with details if they required any. No reply!

Curiosity piqued, I went onto the person's tree to see just how we were related. We aren't! Not only has this person hijacked my Grandmother but also my GtGrandfather, going so far as to give my GtGrandfather a completely different set of parents.  >:(

This "researcher's" tree has over 4500 and takes in practically every Royal household in Europe and beyond.

I have sent messages and posted comments to no avail - all are ignored! Anyone else suffered at the hands of these name-collectors?

Tony (And yes! I feel better for getting that out of my system!  ;D )

Could this be restored please? This is the only photo we have of Sam and his wife. Sam was killed in WW1 in 1916 aged 26. The picture is a photo of the original which has, sadly, been lost.

Somerset Completed Lookup Requests / Henry EDWARDSs and Ann marriage, COMPLETED
« on: Sunday 06 November 11 12:00 GMT (UK)  »
Could anyone please look up a marriage for me at the records office?  I am tracing the Edwards family who were living at Witham Friary in Somerset.  The parents of Thomas Edwards is shown as Henry Edwards and Ann (in the parish records of the Frome district).  But I can find no record of a marriage of Henry and Ann in Somerset.

The IGI is showing a marriage for Henry Edwards and Ann Bealing in Donhead St Mary in 1740.  This is the next county, and the date fits in, but I am wondering if this is the right couple.  But I cannot find any evidence of this marriage on any of the records on the internet.

Can anyone help please?

Many thanks

Staffordshire / Wolverhampton trams
« on: Thursday 22 September 11 15:06 BST (UK)  »
My Gran always told the story that my Grandfather used, at one time, to look after the horses that were used to pull the trams up over Broad Street bridge. Can anyone cast any light on whether this could be true - or was it just a story? I know he was living at 116 Wolverhampton Road, Heath Town at the time, so that would put him in the right vicinity.

He married my Gran in 1911 when his occupation was "Town Knocker" and underneath "Journeyman". I assume this is the same occupation as "Knocker-up" ie human alarm clock.

I'm also having problems finding him on the 1911 census. I'm assuming (again!) that if someone was out, and they weren't visiting, they wouldn't be counted on the census.

The Common Room / Railway accident
« on: Thursday 15 September 11 19:28 BST (UK)  »
Couldn't figure out which board to post this on so if this is the wrong one could the moderators please move it to it's proper place.

I've just discovered that one of my relatives died in a railway accident circa 1950. I've trawled the internet to find any details but, so far, have come up empty. His name was James Kidd and he was 30yrs old. He lived, I believe, in Newport, Monmouthshire, and his death is recorded at Pontypool, Monmouthshire, in 1950. The only major incident I can find for that year is the crash at Penmaenmawr, but I can't find any list of the fatalities for that collision.
There is also the possibility that it was a local railway incident, and not related to a crash at all. If anyone can shed any further info on the death, or point me in the right direction, I would be extremely grateful.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / A favour! Restore and enlarge
« on: Friday 05 August 11 17:36 BST (UK)  »
The young lady in this picture is my cousin's mother. She died when my cousin was born in 1945 and this is the earliest pic we have of her. My cousin didn't even know this picture existed until last week and, as far as I'm aware, she doesn't have any other pics of her Mum.

Would it be possible to remove the other people in the pic and also enlarge it? I'd love to be able, with your help, to give her a copy that she can frame.
I don't have the original photo, just this emailed copy.
Thanks in advance.
