The Common Room / Moving around
« on: Monday 27 December 10 12:12 GMT (UK)  »
Can anybody give me an explanation why these ancestors moved around the country so much.

Joseph Redburn b1860 - Darlington,Durham
married Mary Ann Evans b1847 - Peterchurch, Herefordshire.
married 18th February 1890 at St. Bartholomews Church Salford.
He was a fellmonger and she was a servant and they both lived at the same address in Salford.
By 1897 they were living in Lancaster, where their 3 children were born:(information from 1911 census)
Margaret Ann b 1897
Desdemona B 1904 (my husbands mother)
Leonard b 1907
I don't know where they were in 1891 in that years census.
They both died in Lancaster as far as I know.

I find it hard to understand how somebody from Darlington, could meet somebody from Hereford and get married in Salford, then move to Lancaster.

Any clues anybody?

The Common Room / Re: Great Uncle or Grand Uncle

:-\ I was teasing my brother when he rang me to say he was a grandfather. He soon put me down by saying 'you know what that makes you - a great aunt!!!!!'    It really sounds so much older doesn't it.

I think it could be Mill(Milne) of Crichie.  If you google this it shows you a map and information of this place.
Cheers

Westmorland Lookup Requests / family links KITCHING/HOGGARTH
« on: Tuesday 05 May 09 13:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I am researching the HOGGARTH family in Westmorland.
My g grandfather Lancelot Hogarth was born in 1826 and his son, my grandfather, also Lancelot hoggarth was born in 1857.  They both died in December 1903 within 3 days of each other, from unconnected illnesses.
The 1881 census shows Lancelot (b 1826) living at Milton Moor, Preston  Richard, Westmorland, with his family, and also shows a Jane KITCHING, niece, born 1849 Grayrigg, Westmorland.  I am unable to connect Jane to the Hoggarth family. Could anybody please help me by checking the 1851 or 1861 census for Jane Kitching and tell me her parents and family.  Any help would be most appreciated.
Pat
