Cando,
You are amazing, that has to be him if his wife is living at Bungil, via Wodonga. Tthis ffamily did n't have a lot of 'good things' for me to put in their scrapbook unfortunately.
Several unfortunate deaths, possibly linked to alcohol, and another incident which I have previously asked for help on. The family can't have had the best of lives if Dad was otherwise occupied, in Pentridge. This certainly gives me something to put in the book, people may not like it but I intend to put my own miscreants in my families book too.

Thanks heaps, mum mum

Australia / William George Rollings arrival

Hi,
I'm scrapbooking again, I have been trying to find an arrival for William George Rollings, born 1816-18 in Essex, his death certificate says he arrived around 1841, in Victoria.

His wife Eliza nee Carman arrived in 1852 with her sister under the name of Hoyle on the Isle of Skye. They married in 1853 in Vic, I don't need any other information but I would like to find his arrival if possible.
I have considered that he may have arrived as a convict but can't find one that matches.

I just found the source of our information on the arrival of john Henry Wortmann, it was taken from oral history told by his Grand daughter in 1987. It says they arrived about 1840 which we know is wrong, and settled at Germantown, Hahndorf is added later.
Given his naturalization papers have the name of the ship which he arrived in Melbourne aboard, I think the name 'Germantown' has thrown them off a bit.
Perhaps there was misunderstanding in the telling of the story because she goes on to says that the family traveled from Jindera, crossed the Murray River at Whyma and took up land at Bungil, which is just up the river from Granya.

Thanks Cando,
I'm putting a lot of our photos into scrapbooks and adding other information as well. Saves wall space and we can display more for visiting families. This will all look great.

Hi,
I guess he could have returned and then arrived in SA at a later date, his naturalization papers though give his first arrival on the Gottengen which looks very close to the Victorian arrival on the Gollingen.

I guess the next step is to try to find the Poppe families arrival in SA. Or some record of their travels.

Thanks Cando,

I just found it too, thanks to the hints, that looks like the right ship, so our local researchers got it wrong. Mind you this would have been researched 20 years ago when the Museum opened.
Our history says he spent time in Germantown, now known as Hahndorf. Holbrook, which is not far from Jindera, where he met Annie Poppe was known as Germantown up until WW1.

I have attached the misleading information from our book.

Looks like I will have a little extra to add to our display.

Hi,

Thanks for all the replies, I was just looking for a few more certificates, or ships records to add to a display on the Wortmann family at the Granya Pioneer Museum.

https://granyapioneermuseum.webs.com/

Our local history reads that he arrived sometime in 1851, spent time at Hahndorf in SA before traveling by wagon to Jindera where he met Annie Poppe.

Now we have made things interesting, I will look again on Ancestry and see what I can find of him arriving in Victoria.

Hi,

I am wondering if anyone can locate a record of this families arrival in South Australia 1852?
