Australia / James Frederick Star
« on: Tuesday 28 August 18 06:11 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

The Granya Pioneer Museum has just acquired for our collection, a horse drawn wagon which was used by James Star 1852-1930. He apparently carried supplies from the Albury Wodonga towns up the Murray River to settlers along the way. He selected land in the Granya area in 1879 and established himself there.

I am trying to find any information about his days carrying freight, he seems to have had a Hawkers Licence in 1913. Can anyone find any mention of him in Sands Directory or anything similar.

We already have details of his arrival in Australia and his family so there is no need to search for any family information.

Thanks mum mum

Hi,
Good to hear from you, I will PM my email address to you so we can exchange information abit more freely.
I don't believe that Eliza was the daughter of Charles Hanson, he left us somewhat cofused when he provided information for Susannah's death certificate and stated the she only had one child. That child being his daughter Mary, my Great Grandmother. I have the death certificate and the will for Charles Hansen and Eliza is not mentioned on either of them as being his daughter.
John Williams died in June 1865, I'm not sure that we have an actual date for Eliza's birth, I know I have a copy of her marriage certificate somewhere but I can't find it at the moment. If we have taken her year of birth from her death certificate we can't be sure it is correct.
It is possible that Eliza was born between the time Susannah was widowed and when she married Charles sometime before sailing to New Zealand, again, the date of that marriage is not certain.

Hi
tree on this site
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi  lists Elizabeth  and Henry with a son Henry WATKINS Wood
Elizabeth may have been using the name Watkins
Muss
Yes that sparked my interest as well, Watkins was Henry's Mothers maiden name. But the death gives parents names which lead me to believe it was someone else.

Thanks but I'm sure that's not mine, the one mentioned in the newspaper is definitely Elizabeth Nelson, not Watkin. If that is somehow the one the newpaper mentions it's definitely not mine.
We are sure her Mother was Jane Broughton and that Joseph Broughton would have been her Stepfather. She would have been in her seventies by this time if it was my woman.
I just couldn't find a record of the death to rule this one out.

If you are wanting to research the origins of your great great grandmother - Elizabeth Jane Wood married William Holmes - it would be better to change the title of your post.

Umm, that's not what I asked for. I was looking for a death certificate, or coroners report for the Elizabeth Nelson who was mentioned in the newspaper that I linked to. As a family member of my Elizabeth Nelson was in the area at the time I was hoping to find more information to see if it was my Elizabeth Nelson.

I don't know where or when my GGG Grandmother Elizabeth Nelson died, or even what name she was calling herself when she died. She was born 1812 in Manchester, arrived in Swan River on the Hooghly in 1830 with the Broughton family, we have evidence which strongly suggests that she was Jane Broughton's daughter from a previous marriage.
She married Henry Wood in Freemantle in 1830, arrived in Tasmania in 1845 with Henry when he was convicted of theft again. She left Henry in Tasmania and married John Nelson in NSW in 1849.
Her daughter Elizabeth Jane Wood married William Holmes in Sydney. Elizabeth Nelson who arrived on the Hooghly is in Darlinghurst goal in 1859, this is the last positive sighting I have of her.

Sorry just checked my tree, Elizabeth Nelson's Sister was John Robert Grenness's Mother Jane Ann/Anne Elizabeth Broughton.
I do have a copy of John Waghorns book, I spoke to him a few years ago and we exchanged enough information for me to convince him of the family connection.

Hi
The Elizabeth Nelson I am looking for was my GGG Grandmother, arrived in Swan River with the Broughton family on the Hooghey, married Henry Woods as Elizabeth Robinson. She left Henry in Tasmania and married John Nelson in Sydney, John seems to have disappeared, she spent time in Darlinghurst goal. If my internet would work I would look up details.
Born around 1818, I think from memory but would have told lies about her age I'm sure.
