New Zealand Completed Requests / Re: Emigrating from England to NZ
« on: Thursday 10 March 05 19:26 GMT (UK)  »
Melanie,

Thanks so much for the look up offer.

I'm looking for Christian Jensen (probably a Danish national ) and his wife Rose Victoria (my gt aunt).
She was formerly Coates, but that husband was killed in WW1, and her maiden name was Evans.

Rose was born in 1889 in Paddington, London and she married Christian in London 21/12/1918. Her parents were William and Elizabeth (nee Tanner).

Christian was born about 1880 and was a mechanical engineer. His father was Neils Jensen.

Thank you so much. Anything you find will be gratefully received.

New Zealand Completed Requests / Emigrating from England to NZ completed
« on: Wednesday 09 March 05 21:15 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all,
Family rumour has it that Gt aunt Rose emigrated from England to New Zealand. She was married in Dec 1918 in England and I can find no evidence of any children after that, therefore if she emigrated it could have been soon after her marriage.
Where do I go from here please? Can I check ship's passenger list and if so how? Do I need more information, ie a date, before I can make a realistic search.

Thanks     ---   Peter E

Pauline,
One of my gg aunts was a house maid at Windsor Castle. I found her in the 1891 & 1901 census.  To get more info about her service I wrote to:-

The Royal Archives
Windsor Castle
Windsor
Berkshire   SL4 1NJ

I enclosed an SAE and in return received a copy of an employment form filled in by my ggaunt showing her handwriting and signature.

I am sure if you do the same you will get a helpful reply.

The Lighter Side / Re: Nice Names !

My wife has a couple of men in her tree whose Christian name was Friend. I always think of it as a solid comforting name. They were both from Yorkshire so maybe its a local thing there. One of them died in WW1.

Hello all,
I understand why images cannot be posted on this forum, but does that also apply to posting images in a PM to a specific person. If images cannot be posted that is fine, but if they can, would someone please advise me how to do it. I have a copy of a census image and a copy of a marriage certificate, both obtained from a County Record office for another Rootschatter.

Many thanks

Sarah,
This is a transcript of the 1851 census for Stokenchurch, Oxon.

1851 Census for Stokenchurch, Oxfordshire

Thomas Bird [head] marr age 33: Labourer: born Bucks, West Wycombe
Fanny Bird [wife] marr age 31: Labourer wife: born Oxon, Stokenchurch
George Bird [son] unm age 9: Labourer son: born Oxon, Stokenchurch
Mary Ann Bird [dau] unm age 7: Labourer dau: born Oxon, Stokenchurch
Elizabeth Rebecca Bird [dau] unm age 4: Labourer dau: born Oxon, Stokenchurch
Caroline Bird [dau] unm age 2: Labourer dau: born Oxon, Stokenchurch

I have a photocopy of the original, and a copy of the marriage cert and banns for John Butler/ Matilda Norris in case you do not have them.
I shall try to send them to you by PM.

I do not think that my William Butler and your John Butler are related. William's father is John born c/1807 and your John's father is Thomas.
I have not yet been able to find where in Oxon my Ann Bird was born but at that time both Ibstone and Stokenchurch seem to have been in Oxfordshire not Bucks. I shall keep looking for her birthplace.

Sarah,
Today me and Mrs have been to Bucks CRO at Aylesbury. We had a very good day but now need to look at the info we have to see how it fits in.
We managed to get a copy of the 1851 census page for Stokenchurch showing Thomas and Fanny Bird that you wanted.   :)   I aim to try to send you a copy in a personal message but I am too busy tonight. Sorry. I hope to have more time tomorrow evening.
BTW There were loads of Birds in that locality. And I mean humans - not Red Kite.   ;D  It seems to be the most common surname in the Ibstone/Stokenchurch area.

Will speak soon.   Regards

Peter
