Hi Everyone,
First post so I hope this is in the right place. Basically I've been researching my family tree on and off for several years and had an account at Genes Reunited I didn't use. I received an email from them offering a 14 day trial so I took it - The trial was scheduled to end today the 22nd. I read the terms and I made sure I clicked single subscription and underneath it the blurb stated that when my trial was up no money would automatically be taken and I would be contacted about renewing my subscription or words to that effect. I even checked it the night before last to make sure as I knew the trial was nearly up.
Anyway I got an email last night from GR as a receipt for payment of £34.95 for my continuous Gold subscription for the next 6 months! I was flabbergasted as I knew I'd activated single membership and there was a day to go until the end of the trial anyway. I've used the site quite a lot during the trial but as my research is centered on Scotland and Ireland I found that the records they have available are not very much use to me. I hadn't realized they had no Scottish or Irish records but due to this I'd decided that I would take out the standard membership when my trial was up so I could use all the other features.
Anyway I emailed them explaining all of the above, saying there had been an error in their system and could they please refund me the difference between a gold and standard membership. I got back what seems to be a pretty standard email saying they couldn't refund me and quoting terms and conditions about continuous membership. It doesn't even seem like the person has read my email. I was wondering if anyone else had experienced anything similar and if there is a phone number or any other recourse I can take other than emailing again. I'd be grateful for any advice. Thanks a lot.
Regards
Michelle
