I am trying to trace Louisa Jane Joy, also known as Louise Frecknall. After her husband died in 1897, Louise was a theatrical costumer in London. Her son Nicholas Frecknall had been born in 1893, and around 1912 he took the stage name of "Nicholas Joy" and became a famous actor in New York. I have had no problem tracing Nicholas thanks to a search a while back by some fabulous RootsChatters.
Nicholas's mother Louise is somewhat more tricky. She was born Louisa Jane Treble in London in 1859. In 1911 she and her son were still in London. Nicholas and Louise subsequently seem to have travelled extensively, and both seem to have adopted the surname JOY.
In 1915, Nicholas departed from Sydney, heading for New York, at which time he said his last permanent residence was Melbourne. Helpfully, the passenger list notes his mother:
"Mrs. Joy - Mother - 3 St James Bldg, William St, Melbourne"
That is the last trace of Louise I have found. I'm not sure if she remarried but I don't think she did since Nicholas's obituary notes his mother as "the late Mrs. Louisa Treble Joy". Did she stay in Australia? Are there any records for who was living at that address (3 St James Building, William Street) in the 1910s?
Any info is much appreciated.
