Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / Kneesall PR lookup
« on: Sunday 03 June 12 21:44 BST (UK)  »
If someone has access to the parish registers for Kneesall (on fiche at Nottingham) and could check the details of the following two events, that would be great. I am 99% sure that the marriage and baptism occurred at Kneesall.

     - Marriage: George DOBB(S) & Kate GRATTON, married 1919
     - Baptism: Harold O. DOBB, born 1921 (he died in 1988)

Thanks,
Alexander

England / National Probate Index lookup - 1942,1966
« on: Monday 14 May 12 04:53 BST (UK)  »
Could someone with access to the National Probate Index lookup a couple of people for me please? I think it is quite likely they had wills/administration because they seem to have been of considerable means, and they had no children, but it would be great to confirm this.

George H(erbert?) HODD (died 1942, Hampshire)
May Florence HODD (died 22 Dec 1966, Sussex) - George's widow

Thanks

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Date & age please
« on: Tuesday 08 May 12 01:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I was sent this photo yonks ago (so before anyone asks, I do not have access to the back). I've always rather liked it for some reason, but I'm not completely sure if it is who we think it is. Approximately when was it taken? Also, how old do you think the woman was?

Thanks

Buckinghamshire / Mary Elizabeth Brooke
« on: Monday 07 May 12 20:21 BST (UK)  »
Mary Elizabeth PARKER married John FRECKNALL in 1886 in Nottingham. Her marriage certificate shows she is a widow, age 38, and her father's name is Joseph BROOKE, a coachman.

Sadly her husband John died later that year. In 1889 in Nottingham Mary married Frederick William BARNSDALL.

She shows up on the 1891 (age 38) and 1901 (age 47) censuses in Nottingham, both with her birth place as Buckinghamshire. She died in 1904.

I'm interested in finding more about Mary's life before she married John, however I can't find a marriage to someone called Parker, nor can I find a birth in Buckinghamshire under the name Brooke with father Joseph. Any ideas?

Thanks

Europe / Italy - Alfonso Tamburri
« on: Friday 27 April 12 05:02 BST (UK)  »
Alfonso TAMBURRI (c.1879-1940) married my relative in 1912 in England (though they had their first child in about 1903). They appear on the 1911 UK census, on which Alfonso appears as age 31, birthplace Italy.

I have his marriage certificate (1912) which states he was 32, and his father was Michell Tamburri, a farm labourer.

I would like to find out a bit more about Alfonso's roots - his birthplace, parents, etc. But I've never tried looking for Italian records before and am not sure where to start looking.

Thanks

England / Harriet Edgecombe - 1851/61/71
« on: Saturday 14 April 12 19:48 BST (UK)  »
Harriet Edgecombe was born in 1799 in Worcester. Until today I didn't have any idea what happened to her, but I stumbled upon an entry in the National Probate Index which is definitely her. She died 4 Nov 1874 in Rainford, Lancashire, administration being granted to her nephew Thomas William Edgecombe of Malvern, Worcs.

I've found her in 1841 living at College Street, Worcester, the address both her parents died at in 1836 and 1837. Her age is 10 years off but I'm sure its her.

However, I cannot find her on any of the censuses until her death - 1851,61,71 - even allowing her age to be 10+ years wrong. I don't know where she vanished to, or when she went to Lancashire.

If anyone can find where Harriet was on those censuses, that would be great. :)

You will have to have rather wealthy relatives for this register to be much use (I don't ::) )...but it does make fascinating reading...

I have a copy of the Notts Register of Motor Cars and Motor Cycles from 1903. There were only just over 100 owners in the county at the time. Each entry includes interesting information about their car(s) they owned. I have extracted all of the names (and place of residence) below, just let me know if you would like full details for any of them.

Completed Leicestershire Lookup Requests / GILDING burial lookup - COMPLETED
« on: Tuesday 03 April 12 02:21 BST (UK)  »
I would be grateful if someone can find a burial for Thomas Gilding (b.1740) and his wife Edith "Edy" (b.1750). They had children born in Eaton, Branston, and Scalford, Leics. - my last sighting of them being at the baptism of their son in 1792 at Scalford.

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Newent St Mary marriage lookup (1878)
« on: Wednesday 28 March 12 23:54 BST (UK)  »
I would be very grateful if someone could check the full details of the following marriage, in the parish register:

1878 - Newent St Mary the Virgin, Gloucestershire
William E. M. FRECKNALL & Fanny Frances BURGUM

William's middle names have been giving me difficulty (Edmund/Edman/Edmun, not sure what the M is for). So it would be great to be able to confirm what the middle names were, as well as father's names, witnesses etc.

Thanks
Alexander
