Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / Thomas TRIPPET of Southwell, Notts.
« on: Monday 08 June 09 01:10 BST (UK)  »
I am researching one of my ancestors named Thomas Trippet who lived in Southwell for much of his life it seems. His daughter, Elizabeth (b. 1766, Southwell) married John Briggs, my ancestor. Elizabeth had three brothers (William, John & Thomas) all born in Southwell in the 1760s & 70s. Thomas's (Sr) wife was named Sarah, but I haven't been able to find any marriage record for them.

I had just about given up on the Trippets when I googled them and came up with a hit in an old book online called The history of Southwell, in the county of Nottingham, its hamlets and vicinage which had been published in 1818. In the section on longevity, under the "Aged persons now resident in Southwell", it says: Thomas Trippet, 86. This is almost surely my Thomas. I have not found any birth or death for Thomas, so if anyone had access to a Notts burial index or something could they please lookup a death of Thomas Trippet sometime around 1818. This makes the birth year for Thomas around 1732 (assuming the book was published near to when the ages were taken). Any help in finding a birth/baptism for him would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Thank you Denise for not letting me give up. I just went through the 1871 census for the Coventry Workhouse...just as a last resort...and amazingly I found Mary! She had been transcribed as "Mary Pevsner" - I'm not sure how the transcriber could have missed that because it was all pretty much alphebetical! Her birthplace was listed as Caunton, Lincolnshire rather than Caunton, Nottinghamshire, which is why I missed it when I searched for Marys born in Notts. She was age 75, a widow. It all fits and I'm quite sure it's her. That makes that burial seem the likely fit. Of course the death certificate can tell me for sure.

Thank you again Julie and Denise for your help! ;D

Ireland / FRECKNALL/FRECKNELL family in Ireland
« on: Thursday 28 May 09 23:01 BST (UK)  »
I am researching the surname Frecknall and some of my relatives went to Ireland in the 1870s I think. Their names were Henry Frecknall (or Frecknell) and his wife Lavinia Milton. Henry was from England and Lavinia from Canada (they got married in Montreal, Canada in 1863 while Henry was a soldier. Their children were:

(Stephen) Henry Frecknell (b. c.1865, Canada)
(John) William "Willie" Frecknell (b. c. 1867, Canada)
Ann M Frecknell (b. c.1869, New Brunswick, Canada)
Albert Edward Frecknell (b. c. 1871)
Lavinia Marian Frecknell (b. 1873, Weymouth, Dorset, England)
Chrisopher Frecknell (b. 25 Dec 1875, Dublin, Ireland) - according to the IGI.

I was wondering what records might exist that could help me research this family? I have looked for census  records for this period without success. Are there any passenger lists from Canada or England to Ireland? I haven't used Irish records before so I'm a complete novice.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks!

Thank you so much for this, Dawn. It's a great help as I've been stuck on the Butcher line for ages and knowing Edward's father will help tremendously.

Thanks,
Alexander

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / Re: TURNER Burial - London Road Cemetery, Coventry

Thanks Julie,

That burial for John is probably the right one. I'm not sure about the one for Mary though because I can't find her in 1871. I've found another Mary born 1796 in Dublin living in Coventry in that census but she is definately not the one I'm looking for. It's also likely that she didn't stay in Coventry after John died. They had come quite a long way from Southwell, Nottinghamshire originally between 1841 and 1851, so she may have gone back. The problem again is that it's such a common name!!!

Thank you again,
Alexander

Thanks for your prompt reply Julie! Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be the family I'm looking for. Mary was born in 1796. John was born around 1788 - again no details because it's such a common name.

In 1861, they were only lodgers, living with Fanny Taylor (age 72) at the address 9 Sherbourne St I think - it's a bit hard to read. John was a watchmaker finisher born in London age 73, and Mary was born in Conton - actually Caunton - Nottinghamshire, age 65.

I haven't been able to find either of them since that census. I'm now thinking that these entries I found on FreeBMD in 1863 and 1866 are probably the wrong ones - but I'm glad to know that before I get the certificates.

Thanks for your help...Alexander

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / TURNER Burial - London Road Cemetery, Coventry
« on: Wednesday 27 May 09 17:34 BST (UK)  »
Is there anyone who could lookup the details of two burials in London Road Cemetery, Coventry, Warwickshire? I am searching for the deaths of my relatives John and Mary Turner, who died (I think!) around 1866 and 1863 repectively. Since they're such common names though, I wanted to be sure that it was them before I go ahead and order the certificates. I'm quite sure that they were buried in this cemetery.

Thanks for any help in advance!

I was wondering if it is possible for anyone to do a lookup of the details of a marriage in St Thomas's church, Marylebone, Middlesex. The couple were called Edward BUTCHER and Elizabeth Jane FRANCIS, and they were married there in late 1865. Any information that the parish record provides would be much appreciated.

Thanks!
