Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Message on postcard - completed again thanks!
« on: Thursday 14 January 10 17:49 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone decipher the message on this please?  Its very dirty and browned -  posted 1921 to my grandfather but he died in 1920.  I'm especially curious about how it is signed but don't want to just guess.  Thanks.
I guess its notifying a new address.  And could anyone tell me if it could be a photo postcard please?

Cars seem to be the vogue at the moment so I wonder if someone would be kind enough to sharpen this one up a little please?  My Uncle Eddie is to the left and my Aunt Nora to the right.  It was taken in 1925 somewhere around Westport.  Is that a starting handle or is it being towed?  :) And what kind of car is it - I want one!  ;D

A couple of months ago I passed on some info to someone researching their grandfather's family on a genealogy site.  It turned out that his gt grandmother was my grandmother's sister. Glad I did because he put me in touch with my third cousin Susan,  a childhood friend, who I had not heard from since she moved in the 1950's.  Susan has lived Canada and South Africa for some 40 years and today she emailed this pic to me  :)  She told me she remembers she was wearing a yellow pac-a-mac   I loved that dog (I borrowed him every day) Laddie - a black and white collie.  On looking closely I can see I am wearing my school blazer - bottle green! (I hated the blazer  ;D)   I don't know if the photo could be tidied up and coloured as I don't know how good a scan it is.  I would love to suprise her by emailing the much travelled snap back to her.  It was taken on Langsett moors in South Yorkshire - a favourite family walking place.  So if it is possible, many thanks and if it isn't still many thanks  :)

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Coopers Royal Band
« on: Friday 08 January 10 20:34 GMT (UK)  »
I've found scant information about this band that I think was around West Yorks/Barnsley 1905ish.  ibew.org.uk tells me the band was still active in 1913 and shows a photo of the band.
Does anyone have any information on it please?

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / 39 little faces circa 1880
« on: Thursday 07 January 10 21:34 GMT (UK)  »
This is Carol's fault  :) she sort of challenged me!

My paternal grandmother is extreme right on third row.  And there are
thirty nine little faces  :)  The age differences in the children appear to suggest this was a photo of the whole school. It would have been taken somewhere in Bradford.  This is a lovely bonus for my precious collection.

Hello
I'm almost ashamed to submit this - the photo is in a terrible statel  - very thin faded card with an almost metalic purpley sheen to it.  Goodness knows how long it had been in my aunt's attic.  I reckon it was taken about early 1930's.  Hope its not past at least bringing out the features .  She had fair hair.  :) (I miss the Santa hats!)

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Glasnevin - whose grave?
« on: Tuesday 05 January 10 16:21 GMT (UK)  »
I found this photo in an old album of my grandmothers.  It is dated on back September 1926 but nothing else written down.   On the same page are photos of Michael Collins,  Arthur Griffiths and Daniel O'Connell's graves in Glasnevin Cemetery (all identified and same batch no. A246)  I can make out the name Walsh? on one but wonder if anyone can tell me more as the focus of the picture seems to be on the unmarked one? She was obviously on a pilgramage.
Thanks  :)

Lancashire / Mulhearns of Rochdale
« on: Monday 04 January 10 22:22 GMT (UK)  »
After my mother died over 20 years ago, I found a tattered prayer book marker with the text 'In loving memory of William Mulhearn who departed this life December 24th 1905 aged 13 years.  Interred at Outwood Cemetery December 27 1905'
I kept it because my mothers grandfather was a Mulhearn and thought it must be some connection.
The only birth that fits - William Mulhearn b 1892 Rochdale.  The only death I can find is Jan - Mar 1906 Wakefield.  Outwood Cemetery is I believe in the Wakefield area.
If I have the right William Mulhearn then his parents would have been Martin Mulhearn b c 1865 Ireland and Rose Ann.
In 1901 Martin Mulhearn is shown as a widower with 2 children Hannah 7 and Mary 3 months, boarding with Paddens in Rochdale.  Rose, his wife died Jan/Mar 1901.
However I cannot find William Mulhearn.  Can anyone help?
(by the way the William Mulhearn b 1893 Barnsley is already one of mine)
Any ideas welcome - thanks  :)

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / No restore just honest advice please
« on: Saturday 02 January 10 15:55 GMT (UK)  »
Could anyone tell me if the young man on the right of the photo beneath  is the same man in the Trafalgar Square picture above :)  Hair - ears ?  I think so but I would value other opinions - thanks

Hello - another request to you wonderful restorers  :) This is a photo of my aunt taken 1931.  The man is unknown to my cousin and myself and we are trying to unravel a mystery.  A restore would help us compare with an earlier photo we think we have of the man.  Sounds intriguing  ;) It is but really only for pms  :)  Thanks  :)
