Australia / Death Lookup - John BRADY Victoria
« on: Sunday 16 January 11 01:47 GMT (UK)  »
I have hit a brickwall in finding a death certificate for John Brady.  Need to know if any one else can help me.  I have the following information.  John Brady born about 1812 Dublin - married Ellen Penrose in Warrambool about 1856.  They moved to Stanley in Victoria to live.  They had the following children:- John, Ann, William, James, Charles, George and Francis.  Ellen his wife died in 1876, his daughter was married in 1880.  I believe he was alive up until then according to family info.  His profession was a gold miner and he lived for awhile in Stanley.    One of his sons moved to NSW and a few others moved down to Emerald in Victoria.   I have not been able to actually pinpoint and find a death certificate for him, I don't know if any one is able to obtain more information that I can see on the BDM without me purchasing all the possible certs.  Can anyone offer some advice or assistance?    His mother and fathers names were John Brady and Ann Darcy both from Dublin.  Many thanks for your time and possible assistance.
Regards

Hi Denise & Alison,
thanks for your msg.  I actually went to Stanley last year and did the same as you plan Denise.  Alison, thanks for the offer of photographs - I did take a photo of the only one that had a headstone.  The others graves did not have headstones unfortunately so I was interested in the layout so I would at least know where they were buried.  It is an exceptional kind offer from you both.  My family name is Brady, they lived at Stanley and I do not have the plot numbers.   Names were:
Ellen Brady
John Brady (son)

Thru the Information Centre in Beechworth I came into contact with a lady who worked at the Chinese Centre and she knew a lot about early Stanley.  She promised to be in touch, I gave her some $20.00 for postal & copy money and never heard from her.  Pity!
My family lived in Stanley, John & Ellen Brady and had quite a few children, the oldest was John Brady who is buried with a headstone at Stanley.  They were goldminers and I think John Brady (son) lived at Beechworth.
I am interested in the life they would have led etc so I will look up the books by the writer Craig.
If either of you do come across plot numbers Stanley that would suffice.  Many thanks for your kindness!

Wicklow / Re: Murray of Sheepwalk, Arklow, Co Wicklow

Hello J.M.

I read your post and I am also interested in Murray's from Arklow.  Could be chasing the wrong line here - however thought I let you know as your Murrays are a bit before mine so there could be a connection.

I have the following that I know of:

John Murray married Bridget Bolger (c1830's) they had the following children I know Patrick 1850, John 1852, James 1854 & Mary 1857.

Patrick 1850 married Mary Gaffney and they had the following children - John 1874, Bridget 1876, James 1878, Patrick 1880, Peter 1884 & Thomas 1893.

I think that Patrick and Mary Gaffney were perhaps married in St Marys RC in Arklow.  Any connections with yours?
Kind regards

Denise,
I am so very sorry - I typed in Cando for your name.  My apologies!  I am on my lunch break and trying not to get caught.  So sorry!

Hello Cando,
Just saw your post about the Stanley Cemetary.  I also have been chasing the same and have contacted the trust several times and I have had no luck.  If you do manage to get the layout or a response could I kindly ask you to pm me a copy!  It's cheeky of me - but I have a few buried there - went there and did not know where they were!  Let me know if not convenient.
Thank you

Dublin / Dublin to Van Diemans Land
« on: Saturday 12 June 10 08:43 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I have a possible convict sent to Australia.  I have tried the Australian site etc and have found out the following information:

John Brady
Parent: John Brady & Ann Darcey/Dorsey/Davey (a bit unsure - old writing!)
Born: Dublin
Convicted: Dublin
Jailed: Spike Island 1946
Transported: Van Diemans Land 1850
Ticket of Freedom: 1853

He could read & write and gave his father occupation as a Cabinet Maker on his wedding Cert.  Dont know if this is correct.

He was about 14-16 yrs old when convicted of stealing 2 books.  What I would like to know where about to start looking at records that may exist in Dublin.  I know alot of information may have been destroyed in 1922?  Any suggestions would be great.
Thankyou.

LoganH,
I didnt have it all.  I didnt have the Argus info on William Myles.  Thankyou.  At least tells me that his father John Brady was definitely dead by the time William died.  Thankyou.
