Hi.  That has been great information, and thank you!  I wonder if it would be possible to go back to 1841 census.  Won't find the family there, (John & Mary Jane didn't marry until 1845 in Dublin).

But on the marriage cert, John Gibbons Mathews stated his usual place of residence as Nottingham.  This would have been as a single man, and he was an Army Sergeant of Lancers!  So I wondered if he may be possibly be found in an Army barracks in Nottingham 1841 census??  I'm so grateful for the help I am getting on this family, but it's been really difficult to find a birth record for him.

Haven't had any luck with the "Newatt Ireland" as place of birth in the 1871 census, as above, nor with the Portarlington with his wife, Mary Jane Fleming.  Shane on the Dublin board has put in a lot of work on that one for me, but  I'm hoping there is a possibility that another earlier census entry may give another place of birth other than just "Ireland".

Thanks very much

:)Yes, thank you, it is rather special! (But I see I put an extra "g" in the last message.  Typo sorry! I can see why you asked!! LOL The couple sitting are my great great grandparents, Thomas standing is my great grandfather!

In the first photo above, The Thomas (1) & Sarah (his wife) sitting -  married in 1849.  The Thomas (2) standing was born 1861.  He married Mary Houston in 1890. The child is James, and I am not certain of his birth date yet. So the guess work photo probably about around the mid to late 1890's.

Just for your interest (and thank you) the photo below was taken just shortly before my own grandfather (Robert McA) came to NZ in 1926. The child James in the other photo -  is also in this  photo, as is Thomas (2)  as the father, Mary Houston as the mother,  and the Robert is my grandfather!!  This one's a pretty special photo as well!  I'm very privileged to have had these lovely old images sent to me from living relatives in Scotland.
Thanks

:)  Thank You all so much!  Wow - that was special to wake up to this morning.  I love them all and you are very talented and giving people.  Each one is special, and I really love the detail that you have brought out in the dress that my ggggrandmother Sarah is wearing!  And that wee boy could be my own grandson!!  His jacket style and that haircut has also stood the test of time!  Even the oldest male seems to have a kind of a comb-over!  Thanks again - they're wonderful!
