Renfrewshire / William Bingham marraige
« on: Monday 11 July 16 15:38 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to locate any details on William Bingham.  I know he was born in Ireland c.1826, was married in Scotland and then lived, until death in 1917, in Birkenhead.  The 1911 census records Co Down as his birthplace.

The Irish forum recommends finding his marriage details.  I do know that he was married to a Catherine Anderson on 14 October 1857 in Blythswood.  Is it possible to apply for a copy of his marriage cert to find out parents details?

Apologies for troubling you all but I only have experience in English records.

I am trying to locate any details on William Bingham.  I know he was born in Ireland c.1826, was married in Scotland c.1855 and then lived, until death in 1917, in Birkenhead.  The 1911 census records Co Down as his birthplace.

Is Bingham a common name in Co Down and are there are records that would give me his parents details?

Apologies for troubling you all but I only have experience in English records.

Somerset / Fanny Parsons of Nimmer Chard - complete
« on: Tuesday 24 May 16 13:48 BST (UK)  »
I am researching a family photo of a family named Parsons from Nimmer near Chard.  Father is Heman and mother is Amelia and he has 3 sons and 2 daughters in it.  I know who they are but can't identify a young girl in the photo.  I suspect she is Fanny Parsons born c.Dec 1894 but who are her parents: Heman or one of the children? Does any one know?

This man is believed to be Frederick Heman Parsons, son of Heman Parsons of Chard.  The photo was taken on his return from the Boer War and has a large banner with the date of Dec 1900 above him so that is conclusive.

The Foreign Service Helmet is typical of a Boer war helmet but I can't find his regiment.  The stripes are huge.  Unfortunately the collar badges are blurred.

Any thoughts?

I am after a steer.  I have tracked a possible ancestor George Mortimer Brown born 26 Oct 1875 St Davids, Pembrokeshire, emigrating on SS Lord Gough to the USA 24 Oct 1894 from Liverpool.  I believe that he went to Boston /NY.

In 1900 he returns to the USA with his brother Osborne.  He also returns from the UK in 1907.   I am really interested to locate him in Jan 1897.  Could he have been back in St David's?  To that end I need to find out when he came back to UK, to return again in 1900.  Are there any online records where I can identify when he returned to the UK?

Thanks

Alan

Pembrokeshire / George brown - drunk in St David's 1891
« on: Monday 05 August 13 15:10 BST (UK)  »
from the Pembrokeshire herald 1891:

DRUNKENNESS, &C. George Brown was charged with being drunk and disorderly. The defendant did not appear. P.C. 33 deposed that on the 15th ult, he saw defendant very drunk in the Mariner's Square. Defendant swore, called him a vagabond, and said that the police were hunting him about, and that he was not drunk then. He afterwards saw him going down High Street. Defendant had been refused beer at a public house that morning, and had been turned out. The Bench fined defendant 10s with costs, stating that if he was brought up again, and convicted, he would be sent to prison.'

This street is the next road to a relative of mine George Brown's (born 1850 in Ludchurch and married to Catherine) home at the Quay in 1891.  There may of course be 2 George Browns!  I have looked at the 1881 and 1891 census and he does seem to be the best (only) candidate.  Does any one have any other candidates that they can find?

Wales / Translation request for Miss Evan's postcard
« on: Wednesday 17 October 12 15:40 BST (UK)  »
I recently inherited a collection of photos and postcrads from a Miss Catherine Evans of Tal-y-bont near Bangor.

I am developing her family tree on ancestry with a view to finding a relation to pass them on to.  It is tricky as she died a spinster in the 1970s but she did have nieces and relations who wrote to her but with out surnames or addresses.

Can anyone translate this card?  It is of Windsor castle and is postmarked 1927.

I have put it on photobucket because of the size of it.
