Please date this photo for me. I believe it was taken in Eastby on the outskirts of Skipton. If the baby is who I think it is, the date would be early 1930's as she was born 1931

This wedding photo is from a collection that belonged to my deceased step mum. Her child hood and early married years were spent in Eastby / Skipton North Yorks where this picture was taken by local photographer "Ray Podmore" I have no idea who the people are and maybe finding out when it was taken may help me to find out.

I believe it to be in the late 30's early 40's but I was wondering what everyone else thought.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Identifying a name on a card, please help
« on: Saturday 02 January 16 20:24 GMT (UK)  »
I have a marriage congratulation card which was to my step mum on her first marriage in 1950. I am trying to identify the first name. There is no one in the family that is still living that would know.

The bottom name is Aunty Bell, I know as it was my step mums aunty Isabel Barnes nee Maudsley born 1883 Skipton. The first name I can't decipher; looks like D. Shaiford but I have tried all sorts of maybe's and look alikes, but cant find anything that looks like this name in the BMD's. It strange to write a name on a card with just an initial

Bell was married to Ralph Henry Barnes but he died in 1932 Leeds North; I am wondering if the name might be a second husband but I can't find any evidence of that either.

I have attached a picture of the names but I have also attached a copy of the whole card because I thought it was rather nice.

Any ideas welcome

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Rigton - Does this cottage still exist
« on: Sunday 20 December 15 23:14 GMT (UK)  »
I was looking at my step-mums birth cert and have wondered about her place of birth. The birth cert says "June Cottage" Rigton and I am having difficulty finding out whether or not the cottage still exists. Rigton does not seem to be a place on its own but a North Rigton and an East Rigton. I have attached the address on the cert.

Any ideas would be welcome.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Nativity please date
« on: Sunday 13 December 15 17:38 GMT (UK)  »
I have just come across yet another old photo among my deceased stepmums bits and pieces; no clues on the back as to who or when. Most of her old pictures I have tied in with the family tree and they have given great pleasure to me and relatives found along the way as we share them between us. This one I think is a wonderful nativity scene and it has popped up just before Christmas as well. I dont know anyone in the picture but I am suspecting either my step mum or her mum are in it somewhere.
An educated guess would tell me that it was taken in Skipton, Yorkshire as that is where they came from.
After all that would someone be able to date it for me please and any other comments most welcome. :)

The Common Room / A Brick Wall - Evelyn Beatrice Riley born 1916
« on: Wednesday 27 May 15 20:55 BST (UK)  »
Evelyn Beatrice Riley, known as Beatrice b 1916 registered Guisbourough to Denton Riley and Gertrude May Peirson. She married George Alderson in 1939, Newcastle on Tyne, I know George went to war and was off the scene by 1949, parted or died I dont know what happened to him. There was another man, surname Ashley who I believe she married brfore Alderson but not sure.

She was an actress or a "mannequin" family rumour has it and was in a film London Town 1946. Of course I have looked at the list of credits and can't find her name, maybe she has a pseudonym, I don't know.

She seems to have vanished without trace so we cant find a death record for her. Her son remembers her dying when he was a little boy which was about 1959 to 60. We presume she was Alderson when she died but it is possible she married another after George died.

Not a lot to go on here so I don't expect miracles.

Any ideas would be gratefully received.
Currently I am not subscribed to news archives to look up marriages divorces actresses etc.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Denton Riley Grave query Skipton / Eastby 1954
« on: Saturday 23 May 15 07:41 BST (UK)  »
I have searched for a few years now for the whereabouts of where Denton Riley b1880 d1954 is buried.
He lived in Eastby with his sister in law Bertha Hird and died in Raikeswood Hospital Skipton on 21 April 1954. He and Bertha ran the Mason's Arms pub in Eastby but I don't know if he was still doing that in the year or two up til death. They also lived in a cottage named Burnlea / 50 Barden Rd in Eastby. I think this was very close or by the Masons Arms.

Any relatives that would know have long since died and any younger ones have no idea and are searching too. Nothing on Find a Grave, Deceased on Line etc and as I live 200 miles + away from Skipton I can't search their archives. If anyone is able to help please I should be grateful.
Thank you
Sue

Technical Help / How do you disconnect a relationship on Ancestry
« on: Tuesday 27 January 15 22:44 GMT (UK)  »
I don't know how I did this but I did and now I would like to undo it.

I have found that a person 4 generations back has somehow become one of the sons in the current generation complete with his other near relatives. I thought maybe he was a duplicate but no there is only one of him so I don't have a duplicate to delete. How can I disconnect him without deleting him. Anyone out there know how to do it?
Sue ???
