Thanks!

Now all we have to do is find the ancestors of the Joseph LINK and Anne VENTUM!  ;-)

I'll mark this question as completed.

Therese.

I see several of you are interested in the name MUNDAY/MONDAY/MUNDY.

I have been looking for a while for the origins of Charlotte MUNDAY/MONDAY c1798, apparently "born in Avoncliff" (between Bradford on Avon, Wilts and Bath, Somerset) according to the 1851-71 censuses, but I haven't been able to find any record of her anywhere prior to her marriage in 1826 to Isaac GRAY c1805, stone miner, born Avoncliff, Wilts.

I know there were Munday/Mondays living in Westwood and Limpley Stoke, Wilts in the 1700s and in Freshford and elsewhere just over the Somerset border in the late 1700s and 1800s.

Have any of you ever come across Munday Romany families being in that area at that time - or any Charlotte (or Chalotte) Munday c1798, born somewhere that makes sense in this context?

If her family were moving around, that might be one explanation of why I can't find her!

(There is also some reference to West Lavington, Wilts in one record about her on LDS/IGI but I am almost certain that's one of LDS/IGI's mistakes.)

I'd be very grateful for any help - even if the answer's "no".   :)

Thanks!

Therese.

Wiltshire / Re: George Gray married Priscillia ? Who?

According to: http://www.freshford.com/past/tithe_list_limpley_1841.htm the property was "Stoke Gate House & Bridge", Freeholder of property: Maria Fisher & R. Langley.

That is, it looks like the same property Priscilla and Rebecca were in in 1851.

All the best,

Therese.

Thanks!  :)

I was mainly checking that it didn't say something like "widow of Fred Wheeler, died this last November" or similar.

In that sense, being "base-born" does fit in with my theory about who his grandparents are.

I don't suppose you have any birth/christening record for any likely "Mary Wheeler" in Binfield have you?

My thinking is that she is in fact "Mary Ann Wheeler" c1804, daughter of Isaac Wheeler c1780 and Elizabeth <Knibb> c1776, who went on to marry Joseph Fletcher on 16 Nov 1823 (also in Binfield).

Of course, this would be more of a problem if there are another half dozen likely Mary Wheelers!

Perhaps the only way to find any conclusive evidence would be to look at any Poor Law type documents at the BRO, as I gather the Binfield "authorities" at the time were keen on grandparents taking in illigitimate grandchildren.

Since the BRO is first on my list of ROs to visit given the extant 1801 census for Binfield, tracking down any references to base born Isaac at the same time would make sense.

Any thoughts on all this?

Again, many thanks for looking.  :)

Therese.

Thanks for looking!  :)

I suppose she could have been born in 1813 or 1814.  The dates in those early censuses can be pretty vague.

Perhaps the other suggestion might be right and they were from Plaxtol.

Still a mystery!

Hi!

My 3x great grandmother Elizabeth BUSS c1812 was "born in Wrotham" according to the 1851 census.

Others have suggested some of the BUSS family in Wrotham at about that time were really from nearby Plaxtol.

She married George HUNT c1811 of Hadlow, probably the marriage shown on LDS/IGI in Wateringbury on 2nd Oct 1836, although I am not 100% certain.

I wonder whether anyone can find her christening c1812 in the parish records of Wrotham, Plaxtol or thereabouts?

I also wonder whether anyone has the parish records covering Wateringbury in 1836?  Could you check whether there is any information like age, residence and whether Elizabeth BUSS was a spinster or widow - or anything else - which might tell us whether this is the correct marriage and possibly help pin down her origins?

(BTW, I have looked at the 1841-1901 censuses, the LDS/IGI website and several others, and one of her children's birth certificate's already.  In particular, she seems quite unlikely to be the Elizabeth BUSS christened in East Farleigh in 1816.  I'd welcome others' views though.)

I'd be grateful for any help anyone can offer.

Thanks very much!  :)

Hi!

I wonder whether anyone is able to look at the original parish record of the christening of Isaac WHEELER, son of Mary WHEELER, in Binfield Berks on 2nd February 1822 for me?

I am interested in whether Mary WHEELER was a widow or unmarried, her residence - and any other supplementary information that might have been in the original PR.  (Or BT?)

NB  I have seen "my" Isaac WHEELER's marriage certificate and his father is "UNKNOWN".

This is NOT the Isaac Wheeler christened in 1824 to parents William and Anne and NOT the one shown with them, age 15, in the 1841 census!

I have already looked at the LDS/IGI web site, the 1841 to 1901 censuses, FreeREG and FreeBMD.  Please don't repeat these searches for me - unless you really want to!  ;-)

I am interested in what it says in the original parish record from Binfield if anyone has access to that.

Thanks very much!

Therese.

I didn't.  I was just trying to clarify what you were saying.

My point was that I had looked at the LDS/IGI website and was now trying to find any relevant information from PRs/BTs etc in case Bristol was as poorly covered as - eg - Somerset.

I looked at the batch numbers on the web site you mentioned but that came up with blank pages.  The place references you mentioned were to the same places apparently already on the LDS/IGI web site so I was not sure whether any of that was relevant or not!  :)

All the best,

Therese.
