Essex / Hyde family of Theydon Garnon, Essex
« on: Thursday 13 October 05 22:28 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help me (again!) with Hyde family of Theydon Garnon?
I have been informed by suepip in August that Boyd's marriage index gives the following record.
1806 / HIDE EDW / MILLER CATH / THEYDON GARNON
I have found out since then from Theydon Garnon Church burial records  that
Edward Hyde buried 7 May 1826, aged 62
Catherine Hyde, died 31 Jan 1831, buried 7 Feb 1831, aged 71
Wife of Edward Hyde

This would make them 42 and 46 respectively in 1806, perhaps a bit old for a first marriage and children. They were ?? my GGGG grandparents
My GGG grandfather, George, was born c. 1806 in Theydon Garnon, possibly son of Edward and Catherine.   Is this likely to be a second marriage for Edward?  Any information gratefully received, Margaret

Shathaway, many thanks

I don't know of any Steer direct line rels living in Westerham prior to John and Phillis, but would be interested to have a look anyway.

John was from Crowhurst, Surrey and Phillis/Philadelphia was from Edenbridge, Kent.

I know of several Steer families who settled in Westerham however, who may be related further back, including Edward  and Ann Field(Dalton) Steer and Israel Steer, who I think were uncles of John Steer.  I know of other Steer members who I am trying to tie in to the family.
Thanks once again, Margaret

Sue, thank you for that.
The reason I asked if George's parents could have been Edward and Catherine, were because this pair have been buried in Theydon Garnon Churchyard together.   George and his wife Caroline are also buried there, not sure how close the graves are, or if any connection given on gravestones, someone is looking for me.

Edward Hyde buried 7 May 1826, aged 62
? plot 183
Catherine Hyde, died 31 Jan 1831, buried 7 Feb 1831, aged 71
Plot 183
Wife of Edward Hyde

George Hyde
Buried 8 Jan 1888, aged 81
Caroline Hyde,
 Buried 8 Nov 1885
Aged 85, Living in Theydon Garnon at time of death
Living in Theydon Mount at time of death

So Edward and Catherine Miller married 1806, may well be George's parents, date of marriage would be about right if George was the eldest son, and it would outrule the other Hyde's mentioned as possible siblings.  Will look on census for any younger Hydes, born in Theydon Garnon, to see if there I can find any connection.  I was rather hoping that John would turn out ot be one of George's brothers.  His wife, Katherine, was stayiong with George's daughter in 1861 census.  Relationship given as servant, occupation given as Nurse (6 day old baby in the house) --was hoping she might be related!
Margaret
p.s.  The person who is looking at grave yards for me is associated with All Saint's Church, Theydon Garnon, where George Hyde was gardener and Sexton, and he lived in The Priest's House next door to the Church.

I have found out that records from All Saint's Church, Theydon Garnon, are now kept in Chelmsford Record Office.  If anyone is going that way, perhaps they could  look up baptisms/ marriages of my Hyde family, to try to establish parentage.

George Hyde c 1806   my great great great grandfather
(Were his parents Edward and Catherine Hyde?)
John Hyde/Hide c 1789
(Was he George's brother)
Edward Hyde c 1797
(Was he George's brother?)
Any other likely siblings or parents of George
Any likely Hyde marriages ( I could keep going, but perhaps had better not!)
I know it is a lot to ask, but here's hoping,
Margaret

Correction
I have also found Mary Ann Steer from 1843, Mary Ann and George in batch number     C165192     1813-1847

I think the children born after George should appear in the next batch number, C165193     1849-1870  with the omission of Kate  born 1848, but I can't find them .
