United States of America / A E Gardner, 1924 to 1926, Pittsburg, Kansas
« on: Saturday 25 August 12 09:51 BST (UK)  »
Have just found a grave headstone for:

    "AE Gardner  1924 to 1926"

within a group of six burial plots in Mount Olive cemetery, Pittsburg, Kansas, which looks totally out of place.

The burial plots are for the Gardner family but the parents Sarah & Robert died in 1941/42 at ages 85 & 75 respectively so unlikely parents in 1924.  Their one son died in 1915 and their daughter who was married (Viola Gedney) died in 1924.

Does anyone have access to the Kansas 1925 census that could possibly look for this AE Gardner.

United States of America / Death of Sarah Gardner, Kansas, 1940ish
« on: Wednesday 15 August 12 14:51 BST (UK)  »
Am looking for the death of a Sarah E Gardner (or Robert T Gardner).

I have Sarah (shown as Sara E) on the 1940 census in Washington Township, Crawford, Kansas, with her husband Robert T Gardner (shown as R T on the 1940 census).  Sarah was born Illinois 1857 and Robert was born Kentucky abt 1866. They were married 1895 in Crawford County & had 2 children Viola (1896) & James Ernest (1899).

Have undertaken numerous searches but have not found a recorded death or grave for either Sarah or Robert.  There is a death on the Crawford County Tombstone transciptions for a Sarah L Gardner 1857 to 1940 at the Mount Olive cemetery but this is the wife of David E Gardner 1853 to 1935.

I would not expect to see a correct age on any death as Sarah appears to have played around with her age over the years:

1900 census: Not found as yet
1910 census:  age given as 58 (5 years more than correct age)
1920 census:  age given as 61 (2 years less than correct age)
1930 census:  age given as 66 (7 years less than correct age)
1940 census:  age given as 78 (5 years less than correct age)

United States of America / Montana Marriages
« on: Wednesday 25 July 12 10:15 BST (UK)  »
Have just uncovered a very unexpected marriage in Butte, Silver Bow, Montana in 1918.  Could anyone advise on what the requirements were to be married at that time i.e. could you just turn up and get married or did you have to make prior arrangements?

Renfrewshire / Andrew Foote 1816 Paisley
« on: Sunday 24 June 12 19:04 BST (UK)  »
Trying to locate a Andrew Foote born abt 1816 Paisley.  The birth information was taken from his attestation papers when he joined the 8th Regiment of Foot in Glasgow on the 17th November 1834 (his age given as 17 years 11 Months).

Have searched the SP site and there is no OPR record.  There is a Andrew Foote born 1816 but on linking with the LDS site this Andrew Foote was born Aberdeen.

Andrew is not on any census having been with his regiment overseas 1838 to 1843, then England 1843 to 1846 and dying in India in 1847.

Would welcome ny information on the Foote family Paisley from around the early 1800's.

Armed Forces / Bermuda Death 1922
« on: Tuesday 24 April 12 17:11 BST (UK)  »
Have identified a death, from the Army Returns, for a Harold Gleeson age 24 in Burmuda in 1922.  This Harold looks to be a likely candidate for Harold Gleeson born 1898 Dover son of Lt. Patrick Gleeson & Catherine Madden.
I have looked through Ancestry & Findmypast and have googled extensively but unable to find any further information or a grave but have found nothing further.  Any advice on how I can extend my research.

United States of America / Obituary: John F Borchers: 18 May 2005 San Diego
« on: Tuesday 28 February 12 21:56 GMT (UK)  »
Have identified a death for a John F Borchers 18 May 2005 in San Diego, but have been unable to locate an obituary.  This John F Borcher (1910 - 2005) was an ex military man and a prominent member of the community (Chairman of the San Diego Chamber of Trade) so I was anticipating that there would be an obituary.

Am trying to establish if this John F Borcher was the great grandson of David Francis (1805-1875) who emigrated from Wales in 1842.  If he was the Ggreat grandson and he left no family that is probably the end of David Francis line.

My John's mother was Gertrude Borchers and a Gertrude Borchers (born New Jersey - as Johns mother) died in San Diego in 1975 in the same area.

Any help appreciated.

Armed Forces / Medal Rolls
« on: Wednesday 22 February 12 12:07 GMT (UK)  »
Have just received a copy of my fathers entry on the medal roll.  On his medal card it only had his regiment - South Wales Borderers - but the medal roll has an entry of:

 1/S.Wales Bord

Can I assume from this that he was with the 1st Battalion of the South Wales Borderers.

United States of America / New York birth 1876
« on: Saturday 18 February 12 13:46 GMT (UK)  »
Am looking for a birth of a child of David & Elizabeth Francis in December 1875 or the  early part of 1876, probably in Brooklyn.

David Francis died 26 Nov 1875 (age 70) in Brooklyn and his wife Elizabeth (who married 14 Aug 1873 in Brooklyn) was pregnant at the time.

There appears to have been considerable friction between Elizabeth and Davids eight children from his first marriage and there were court proceedings for his possesions and money, which Elizabeth won (4th Dec 1875).

Plenty of information on the earlier children but nothing on Elizabeth (Williams) and her child.

I have been unable to find the birth, any help appreciated.
