World War Two / Rifle Brigade information required.
« on: Friday 27 July 12 22:06 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find details of my wife's Grandfather who was Irish and joined the Rifle Brigade in 1941. From what I can gather he must have been a Territorial and being from Eire had to go to Belfast to enlist. In his Attestation Papers it states "Eire Recruit" and in the "Corps" section it looks like 11th Battalion Rifle Brigade, but was wondering which regiment he would have been seconded to. I was told he was at Dunkirk, but as that was the year before he enlisted that seems rather dubious.
All information gratefully received.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Birth look-up
« on: Friday 22 July 11 20:38 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for the births of (*) and (*) (surnames not sure of at present) who were daughters of a Lilian G Carter who was born in Warrington in December 1912 (Runcorn District Vol8a/Page 369). She married a Cyril Thomas Whitfield in March 1938 (Manchester S district Vol8d/page 296), who subsequently died at Dunkirk in June 1940 and is buried in a Military graveyard in Nord De Calais. She remarries a Kenneth Wray (a record of which I cannot find), but I'm not sure if the two daughters were of the Whitfield or Wray marriage. They would have been born in Manchester I assume between 1939 to 1950.
All information gratefully received.

Hi Suzard. Thanks for the Census information, that should keep me busy for a while. I emailed the Curator of the Policing In Cheshire Museum and he emailed me back today to say that although they hold  Abel Seed's service records, they have no marriage details or even a photograph of him, but can supply me with a photo of Warrington Police Station where he would have served. Although he did clear up one mystery by saying that he had been dismissed from the service. For what I will not discover until I receive his service record.
This is what makes tracing your family tree fascinating for me, all the skeletons you dig up!
Once again, thank you.

Thanks for all the replies. I have no access to later censuses, so I'm not sure of his profession in later years. That's a strange career move from Constable to Wire Cleaner unless he was invalided out of the force for some reason. I will email the curator of The Policing in Cheshire Museum and see if he can shed any light on the matter.
With regard to Esther Annie Seed, thank you Suzard for pointing out my mistake, and I think you are possibly right on the death of the 1st daughter and renaming of the 2nd.
Once again,thanks to all.

Hi Stan. Thanks for the link, but there is no Abel Seed listed for the years listed (1840-1925). Any other ideas?

Hi Suzard, yes I know it says Anne aged 2 on the 1881 census, but she was christened Esther Anne in 1878  and was my Grand Aunt. Whether this was down to mistranscribing (a common fault) or laziness I know not, but she was Esther to all the family.

I was wondering where I could trace records of an Abel Seed b 0ctober 1852 in Warrington. He is listed in the 1881 census as living at 13 Bridgewater Street, Warrington with his wife Elizabeth and children William and Esther and his profession/trade is listed as Police Constable. Is there somewhere I can trace his record in the constabulary?
Thanking you in anticipation.
