However, I should say that I have looked for Cha*, people born in Market Rasen, etc etc...! To no avail.

Is it possible that the 1871 census website has a different index?

I have a few days left of my Ancestry credits, and I wanted to use it to find an ancestor that has eluded me for many years.

Well, I have him in every census, apart from the 1871. In that year, his wife is living alone with the children; Charles is away somewhere.

For a while, I thought that a mistake must have been made and that he was there but not recorded, or somewhere else and not recorded: this was because, search as I may, I cannot find him on Ancestry.

But then I saw this website: http://www.uk1871census.com/ I put him into the box and he shows in the search results! As living in Lincolnshire somewhere, born in 1833.

However, I simply cannot find a record of that in Ancestry.

Can anyone help please?!!!!!!
 

Does anyone here have the means to look up the name of ELWES (and variants, including ELLWES, ELVIDGE and HELWEYS) in the index of wills to the York Registry and the York Peculiars?

I like to know what references there are to the ELWES family.

I do have some information from Transcripts in Doncaster Archives, but I fear they are inaccurate, and I'm also interested in spellings of names. I can give you dates, but there might be more than in my previous post (although I don't think many more)...
