Many thanks. Is there a way to see where these turnpikes were? Sounds like you're saying they could be different ones, but cropping up because the family were in the business of extracting tolls?

In the 1841 census, I find my ancestor William Terry living at 'Barr' in Chapel Haddlesey.

In 1851, I see him living at Toll Barr in Wheatley parish, Doncaster – presumably modern-day Toll Barr?

And in 1871 I find his son, Lawrence Terry, living at Toll Barr House on Dodworth Road.

Can someone enlighten me as to whether these places are likely to be the same geographical location / address or whether every town had a 'toll bar'?

No, these are different locations. There are other Ings but it would seems that this one is not on modern maps.

I know one of my ancestors lived at 'Middle Ing' or Middleing' near Hatfield Chase. But I cannot find this location. Can anyone help me pinpoint it?

I don't think this is the answer. In another family I have found a Susannah transcribed as Hannah - it must be something like this...

Thank you, yes, that is true. I can't find her under Park.

My ancestor Abigail Park was baptised in St George's, Doncaster, on 21 Aug 1831.

I find her on the 1841 census in Nutwell, Armthorpe.

And in 1861 in Auckley, married to George Garnett.

But I cannot find her in 1851! Can anyone help, please? I'd be very grateful.

They had several children but in KIRMINGTON, including Thomas in 1765 - http://www.freereg.org.uk/search_records/5510aa2ee93790332e758d6d?search_id=57d1595333045b09e94d8cbd

There might be a link there.

After nearly a year of reflection, I think it quite likely rm in Kermington became nn and therefore Kennington...
