Family Bibles / Ashworth/Noble family bible
« on: Tuesday 31 January 06 10:44 GMT (UK)  »
I came across a family bible recently belonging to the Ashworth and Noble families. Jonas Noble and his wife Martha (nee Ashworth) emigrated to Queensland in 1873. Their bible is in Brisbane owned by Don, phone number *******. I found it when I went to a garage sale last w/e, but didn't have a spare $50 to buy it. I took digital pics of the data and have it on a gedcom if anyone is interested. The Ashworths came from Rochdale: John and his 2 wives, both named Mary. There is also a 2 page document written by John Ashworth with a verse from Burns quoted for his first wife, but just stating that his second one died.
I should love to see the bible go to where it will be appreciated— it is in a poor state of repair at present. If you just want the data however, please contact me.

The Common Room / Can you date these photos?
« on: Monday 23 May 05 00:33 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to put a date to these old photos. I have checked out a number of websites and this is what I am guessing:
The one of 5 women is a glass plate and I estimate approx 1862-65. The writing identifying the women is thought to be possibly incorrect.
The page from the album is more difficult — maybe 1870 from the girl's photo, but they are not neccessarily from the same time. The man is of most interest to me: he is said to be a sea captain (probably named Banks), but I need a date to find who he could be. Does anyone have any opinions?

Anyone interested please PM me.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / 1861 census lookup please, KIRKPATRICK, L'pool
« on: Wednesday 23 March 05 22:12 GMT (UK)  »
1861 census, Liverpool.
Please would someone look up Andrew Kirkpatrick and his family; daughter Annie would be between 10 and 14yrs old, depending on whether she lied on her marriage certificate!
They lived (and Annie was born) in Liverpool. I have no further details I'm afraid.
Can anyone find them?
Hopeful thanks in advance! Rian.

Occupation Interests / Lath cleaner, Leath Merchant, American Merchant
« on: Wednesday 23 March 05 21:37 GMT (UK)  »
I have a certificate (1869) which states my gggfather was a "Leath Merchant"— the writing is very clear and I wondered if it was short for "Leather Merchant", but there would just have been enough room to write "leather" and there are no other abbreviations in the certificate. I also found an unrelated census entry for a "Lath Cleaner". (But the most mind-boggling is a census entry for 1851 for an "American Merchant"! Did he sell Amercans? Whatever it was he died extremely rich!)
Anyone got any ideas?

Occupation Interests / CAPTAINS and mariners, HENRY BANKS, R. RICHARDS
« on: Wednesday 02 February 05 23:05 GMT (UK)  »
A number of my ancestors were mariners, and I have papers and letters belonging to some of them (letters of recommendation, mentioning ships' names, ports, captains etc). If anyone would like transcripts they are welcome. :)
Also I am looking for news of 2 particular mariners
1.Captain HENRY BANKS, mentioned in a letter. Born sometime around 1820/30, he was related to KENNETT BANKS b St Austell,  living in Liverpool, Captain BAKER BANKS of St Austell, and he had a sister, ROSA.
2.  R. RICHARDS who was on board a ship in Quebec in 1861 writing to his wife ELIZABETH in Liverpool. This is a mystery as the person who had the letter, named Elizabeth, was married to Kennett Banks. It is possible he died in 1855 and she remarried..
Can anyone help? ::)

Lancashire Lookup Requests / 1851,1861,1871 lookups, L'pool, BANKS/RICHARDS
« on: Wednesday 02 February 05 00:48 GMT (UK)  »
Please can someone look up these censuses in Liverpool to find the family of Kennett (often written Kenneth) Banks b1823 Charlestown, St Austell, and his wife Elizabeth (nee Jones) unknown dob and place. I know there were at least 3 children (born in Liverpool I think): John b1846, Kennett (Kenneth) W. b ? and Elizabeth E b 1852. Were there any more of them, when was Kennett junior born, and where and when was Elizabeth Jones born?
ALTERNATIVELY Kennett may have been lost at sea (there are letters referring to Elizabeth's "trouble") in 1855, and another letter from R. RICHARDS to his wife Elizabeth dated 1861. She may have remarried, so if records for Banks in 1861 are missing, possibly she is under Richards instead (he was at sea stuck in Quebec in June 1861). I should be so glad if someone can solve this mystery — i can find no records of a marriage.
Many thanks, Rian.

Tipperary / Parish Registers, Fennessy
« on: Monday 31 January 05 22:01 GMT (UK)  »
 ???
Please can someone look up birth records for CATHERINE (or ?Katherine) A FENNESSY b c1854 Tipperary (known as Kate). Mother was Mary. She moved to England (Liverpool) pre 1873. I have no more details before she married except that family lore has it she came from Cork, despite census records stating Tipperary. I would love to trace her further back, but she has proved to be a complete brick wall so far!
Attached is a pic of her daughter Lilian.
