Archie

I came across your query quite by chance.  Long story, but a friend of my wife contacted me during the week to ask if I had in my family tree a Helen Wood who had married a James Young in Lasswade in 1846.  Firstly, my surname is Woods and not Wood, and secondly I have no family connections to Midlothian.  However, I recognised the names from the family tree of my ex-wife.  I then did a general search which brought up your query.

So it turns out that my wife's friend is the fourth cousin of my ex-wife.  My wife's friend is descended from James Young who was the brother of your grandfather (Archibald Tait Young and Elizabeth Coutts are her great-great-grandparents).  My ex-wife is descended from Jemima Young who was a sister of Archibald Tait Young.  Unfortunately, all this makes you the third-cousin of my former mother-in-law, so I don't know why I am even communicating with you.

I have copied below details from some birth, marriage and death certificates as well as OPRs.  In a minute, I will try to copy some census returns too (space restriction on these message).  Hopefully this information will help with your reseach.

Good luck

David
