Bedfordshire Completed Look ups / Re: 1841 Luton Look-up please OAKLEY / KILB(E)Y

HI Waterfall,

Thank you very much for looking all of these up for me!  ;D :D ;D

It is really useful to have confirmation of where at least some of the Oakleys and all of the Kilb9e)ys were in 1841.  ;D I can only assume that Isaac Oakley and his brother George were perhaps across the county boundary working on a farm perhaps in Offley or or another neighbouring village or hamlet. I am very pleased :D to now know that his future wife Elizabeth Kilby and her family were already in Stopsley at that time. I will also have to try to investigate if the older Isaac Kilb(e)y could be Joseph's brother.

If you don't mind I would be interested in the Wiseman details as well to work out how they all fit in.

Thank you very much once again. :D

Thank you very much Waterfall, I would really appreciate it if you are able to check for me.  :) One thing I do remember was that on the original census for Lydia and William the writing was not very clear and the O looked more like a B, but all of the other details (rounded ages and William being widowed at that time) agreed with the other information I had. I think that this was one of the first trips I made to search censuses at the FRC, so I wasn't that used to the handwriting back then!

Thank you for looking these up for me.  :D 'Kitty' does seem to be Lydia; she is the right age and born close to where I expected, though I have no idea why her name is different in this census (perhaps the enumerator misheard her?). The Wiseman connection to the Thrussels is interesting - I did not know about that and I have a sister of my great great grandmother who married a Samuel Wiseman in Luton. Thanks again. :)

Bedfordshire Completed Look ups / 1841 Luton Look-up please OAKLEY / KILB(E)Y
« on: Tuesday 27 September 05 01:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I would also like to request a look-up for 1841 for my Oakley family:

I found the mother LYDIA OAKLEY many years ago (age rounded down to 50 and widowed) living with her eldest son WILLIAM OAKLEY, also widowed at the time. I believe that his age is given as 30 (bapt. 1809). I would be grateful for any more details, as I mislaid my original notes in a house move and can't remember any other details. I believe that Lydia was born out of county (Herts) and William was born in Luton. Lydia and William were possibly living in East Hyde or New Mill End, or at least somewhere on that side of Luton (to the south), as that was where he was living in the years that followed during his second marriage.

When I looked at the census at the FRC I was not able to find any other members of the family, but I am hoping that if the census is indexed now that some of the other sons might be found. As far as I know they were all ag. labs. Their details are as follow:

JAMES OAKLEY bp. 1811 (Luton) married to MARY ANN b. 1819 (Luton) with children JOHN b. 1836-7, SAMUEL b. 1837-8 and CHARLOTTE b. 1839. Possibly living in / near East Hyde.

SAMUEL OAKLEY bp. 1813 (Luton).

THOMAS OAKLEY bp. 1815 (Luton).

HENRY OAKLEY bp. 1817 (Luton).

ISAAC OAKLEY (my ggg grandfather) bp. 1821 (Luton). Possibly living in Stopsley, as his children were later born there.

GEORGE OAKLEY bp. 1824 (Luton).

FRANCIS OAKLEY bp. 1826 (Luton).

I would also interested to find out if my ggg grandmother ELIZABETH KILB(E)Y bp. 1821 Offley, Herts. was in Luton (Stopsley area) in 1841.
All of her family were born in Hertfordshire.

Parents were JOSEPH b. abt. 1789 and SARAH KILB(E)Y bp. 1791.

Siblings:
MARY (bp. 1817, spinster)
SAMUEL (bp. 1818), wife FANNY bp. 1818, children RIZPAH bp. 1839 & CORNELIUS bp. 1841
HARRIET (bp. 1825)
JAMES (bp. 1826)
CHARLOTTE (bp. 1829)
WILLIAM (bp. 1832)
ISAAC (bp. 1834).

Many thanks in advance to anyone who is able to help.  ;D :D :)

Bedfordshire Completed Look ups / 1851 Luton Look-up please OAKLEY
« on: Tuesday 27 September 05 00:38 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I would be very grateful  :) :D if someone could do a look-up for me for the Luton area in 1851 for Lydia Oakley aged around 63-64 and a widow. I believe that she was born in Kimpton, Hertfordshire. She might have been living in New Mill End, Wadbridge (or Watbridge?) or East Hyde, as this is where some of her sons were living around that time. I have found a Luton death registration reference for a Lydia Oakley in 1852, so believe that she was still alive at the time of the census. She had eight sons, all born in the parish of Luton; William, James, Samuel, Thomas, Henry, Isaac (my ggg grandfather who lived in Stopsley), George and Francis. As far as I know, only four were still alive in 1851 (William, James, Isaac & George). She was my 4 x great grandmother. Thank you in advance to anyone who can help. :)

Herts Completed Lookup Requests / Re: 1851 & 1861 Stevenage look-ups please
« on: Tuesday 24 May 05 19:32 BST (UK)  »
Hi Rick,

I have checked the 1861 census thank you for asking,  :) but still can't find William Mardlin(g) / Mardell (or anything similar) aged 10 and born in Hitchin or Stevenage.  ::) He later became a chimney sweep, so I have a feeling he might have already been working for a sweep climbing chimneys etc  :o (perhaps the enumerator missed him while he was up a chimney  ??? ). Thanks again.

Berkshire Completed Look ups / Re: 1841 & 1851 Census Look-ups please Fisher

Hello Harry,

Thank you very much for that  :)  :) - this is very interesting, as I'm sure that Daniel and Emma also appeared in Reading! Perhaps they were visiting in Reading and were recorded in both places  ??? (with grandmother Sarah staying behind with the younger children)? I have heard reports that this has happened sometimes - cases of people being recorded twice on the same census have been reported in Family Tree magazine etc. I will have to look into it, though sadly as I no longer live in the Berkshire area I am not able to check easily. Thank you once again for your help.  :D

Berkshire Completed Look ups / 1841 & 1851 Census Look-ups please Fisher
« on: Tuesday 17 May 05 16:50 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am trying to piece together the family of one of my husband's ancestors, Daniel Fisher of Hillgreen, Leckhampstead, Chieveley. I believe that he would have been in Leckhampstead, probably at Hillgreen, in 1841 with his first wife (Mary?) and children, including his eldest daughter Emma, born 1837 at Hillgreen and possibly Martha born 1840.

In 1851 I know that widower Daniel was in Reading with daughter Emma in St Mary's Butts, however have no more details as this was just from an index, so would be very interested if somebody could give me any additional information from the origial return. I would also be interested to know if any of his other children were left behind in Leckhampstead with relatives, including William born about 1844-46  as well as Martha b. 1840, Priscilla b. 1842, Daniel and Mary.

Thank you in advance for your help. I am happy to do look-ups in return on the 1861 - 1901 census.
