Bit of a topic drift, but I too, have been able to walk where my Great Great Grandfather walked. He was in the 61st Regiment of Foot and was stationed at the fortress in Jersey around 1864. I visited in 2011 and it felt quite surreal walking the ramparts, knowing that I was retracing my ancestor's steps.
I can quite understand how Sunetra was feeling. Another excellent WDYTYA series. Shame it's coming to an end soon.

My paternal Grandmother used to claim that our family was related to Captain Lawrence Oates - he of the Scott's Antarctic expedition. Sadly, there is not even a remote link to the name Oates, let alone Captain Oates.
I have no idea why she made the claim.
