US Lookup Requests / Re: San Francisco Census Look up please
« on: Monday 12 October 09 21:30 BST (UK)  »
Thank you Pat!

And thank you Merjones!! That's fantastic! Do you know where I might find immigration records for both of them? Sorry if it's a silly question but I really know nothing about US searches!

US Lookup Requests / San Francisco Census Look up please
« on: Monday 12 October 09 20:47 BST (UK)  »

Hope someone can help me, I'm helping a friend of mine with her family tree and she would like to find some of her family on a census in San Francisco.

His name was Thomas Gibney, he was Irish (Co. Meath), he was a stonecutter and his wife was named Josie (Josephine). It's believed that she was French Canadian.

We know that they were in San Francisco in 1922 from this city directory

The story goes that he died when he fell from scaffolding in March of 1933 but we don't have any documentation to prove it yet.

So if anyone has access to any census from before or after that time we would really appreciate it!
Neither of us are used to searching for family in America so if anyone has any other suggestions as to where we might find information, please let us know

Hey Ann Marie,

if the offer's still going I have one or two things I'm looking for in Tipp :)

Firstly, I'm looking for a marriage between a Thomas Treacy and Ann Waters. I have no date of birth for either. The first child of theirs I could find was James in 1864 so I presume they would of married within a few years of that date. On that baptism cert, the address is down as Cooraclevin, Dunkerrin? But I think later on they were based around Ballingarry.

If you could find a birth cert for Thomas or Ann that would be amazing too.

Secondly, I'm looking for a birth cert for Timothy Killackey around 1846. His father should be a Daniel or Donal Killackey (as far as I'm aware). They would have lived close to Cloughjordan and surrounding areas. I've heard some of the family even stretched to Shinrone (practically in Offaly)

Thanks very much :)

Thanks Quaxer, don't know where you get all that information!

Deccam, thanks for the link. I emailed Halston St but the email "bounced", says that email is not in use :( However, I'll ring them tomorrow and see what the story is. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction though

Dublin / St. Paul's - Arran Quay, Dublin - Graveyard?
« on: Monday 14 September 09 23:42 BST (UK)  »
A lot of my Dublin ancestors were part of St. Paul's parish on Arran Quay (lots of baptisms and marriages). If someone who was part of this parish was to die, where would they be buried? In otherwards did St. Pauls have a graveyard or were all parishioners sent to a nearby graveyard? It's right on the quays so I can't imagine it had it's own graveyard on the premises.

I know St. Paul's is closed now, but I don't even know where their parish records are kept now and my knowledge of Dublin graveyards is atrocious.

Thanks for looking that up for me Eadaoin  ;D

Quaxer, so he's there in 1922 as per Eadaoin's Thoms but he's gone from yours in 1923?
At least that begins to tighten the time frame for me. I just have to find out when he arrived now!  :)

And 10 pounds for the premises is dreadful...they must have been in a right state.

Thanks everyone :)

Shane I see you posted something a good while ago about looking up you still have the 1922 one? They're not in that by any chance are they?

Shane, thanks for the input, I'll be driving myself mad looking for Cuffe Street photos everywhere now  ;D

Quaxer, yeah the street looks bad enough as it is in the photo. In 1911, the census records show that number 20 and 21 are just listed as "ruins" so it probably wasn't the prettiest of streets.

I shall not give up yet though. I might try to get into Pearse Street in the next few weeks. And hopefully by Spring next year the 1901 census will be up and I can see where the family were, maybe find some other members. I'm also waiting for the Irish Family History Foundation to digitise their records for Dublin City. I know the site is expensive but it really has helped me tremendously over the past year.

In the meantime, keep any suggestions coming and if anyone has Thoms from 1900 - 1920's please have a look for me if you can  :)
