Hi,
Well he does not seem to be showing up in either 1841 or 1851. Have you tried going through the Durham Diocese Bishop's transcripts (familysearch). It is a long & tedious job as they are not transcribed but something could turn up.
Hopefully his marriage cert will give you more information to go on.
I am also stuck on my Salkelds and can not get back any further. Happy hunting.
