Hello
The Matthew Hetherington 20 in the 1841 census is my gggrandad he married a Janet Grahame from Gretna and moved to Scotland some time before the 1861 census just goes to show how common the names Hetherington and Grahame was so easy to make mistakes

Hi Anaka
Margaret Grahame and Thomas Hetherington married in 1820 in Carlisle and Thomas died in 1824, having only one son Matthew ,Margaret then went on to marry a Walter Laidlow/Laidlaw in 1825 so the children earlier can not have been theirs ,but in Cumberland Hetherington is very comman name

Hello Emma
first let me thank you for taking the time to look this up for me
On Matthew,s death cert it states Matthew Hetherington,Painter ,married to Janet Grahame ,1865 October 30 [cannot make out the time realy bad writing] then it says, in his own paint shop High street Annan, age 45, suicide by hanging, no medical attendant ,William Lockie high street  Annan presant in taking down the body, i am assuming Mr Lockie may have been a undertaker
I have had a look for RCE but cannot see it on the copy of the death cert anywere. With Matthew having a shop on High Street do you know if there is a street  map online which would show the shop and do you think with it being a buisness it would be in some sort of directory? if there was such a thing then
   Thanks again Heather

Hello Emma
I have just sent you a Email could you please let me know if you have received it
As for Matthew Hetherington looking at my paper,s i see he commited suicide he hung himself at the back of his shop, so it states on his death cert he was a painter and{ he hung himself at the back of his own paint shop } it was on High street  Annan he died on 30/10/1865 age 45 his wife was Janet Graham also on the death cert it states William Lockie present at taking down of the body could he have been a undertaker?
Matthew is another i cannot find a resting place for this is what i was hoping to find in the paper surely a suicide would have been reported
Thankyou for taking a look for me Heather
