Is this one of the same De Bohun family who followed Edward II to Scotland and impetuously charged at Robert the Bruce before Bannockburn. The king swerved aside, stood on his stirrups and split De Bohun with his battleaxe. ;D

Ouch,

Susan, this clan chief in waiting has awarded himself no less than two hyphens which is quite preposterous so I omitted them. ;D
However, Buchanan's Black & White Whisky would do the trick whatever the circumstances. ;D

This October there will be an inauguration of the first Buchanan chief since the 17th century. John Michael Baillie Hamilton Buchanan is the man, no mention in the paper of a free bar.  ;D

Anent the Calton & its Weavers, the Scottish Genealogist Journal of Mar' '22 has an article "Reminiscences of Calton, Glasgow, part 1," by a Lachlan McGown 1836-1896, published in the Scottish Canadian in 1893. The life & work of the old hand-loom weavers before progress did its work. Part 2 to follow.

Good pic of Melgarve, probably built in the late 40s, Melgarve was the drove stance for cattle coming over the Corrieyairack. By the middle of the century some estates were charging so much per score for droves overnighting at the stance so a house at the back of beyond makes sense?

By a Nic Bullivant, this is actually the back of the house.

Hello Burr, the Ramshorn Kirk's burial ground was jam packed so the merchants bought the hill above the cathedral and laid out The Necropolis. The Ramshorn was not for the working class.
The first Highland Society in Glasgow was that of the Clan Buchanan, websites below.

Breadalbane entertained hundreds of Highlanders at Achallader, anent dividing up king William's money or planning the rebellion. Glencoe was a minor player and had an eye for a cow or two, generally other peoples cows. ;D
Excellent book, "Glencoe and the end of the Highland War!" by Paul Hopkins, pub' John Donald.
Spent a night in the wee bothy at Achallader many years ago. The keeper was understandably very worried about the risk of fire.
No such problem at Gorton bothy nearby which was a bit of a favourite.

Sheilhillock, a wee hill used for sheiling corn after it was flailed and thrown in the air in the hope that it came back doon again. ;D

Winnowing! the wind carried the husks away. These were collected & steeped & fermented & boiled to make "Sowens"  :P
