Worcestershire / New Website for north Worcestershire
« on: Friday 30 September 05 11:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi Folks,

The Bromsgrove branch of the Birmingham & Midland Society for Genealogy & Heraldry have a new website at: http://www.bromsgrovebmsgh.co.uk/

Although aimed at members, it is open to all to view.  Check it out for links, members interests and general resources.  Any BMSGH member can use the site.   Let us know if you have a family history website, covering Worcestershire, to publicise.

If you have a list of surnames, please break them down into our main areas.  (Don't forget your membership number - I have a little list  ;)  )

There's even a simple article on protecting your computer and testing out your defenses by orchestrating an attack on it - quite safely - but very informative.

If you're thinking about joining a society, there is a link from  our site to our parent's.  Details of branch meetings can be found there as well.  All are welcome.

Good luck
& perhaps we'll see you on the second Tuesday of the month.

Worcestershire / The Village, Kings Norton
« on: Thursday 21 April 05 21:51 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I'm trying to put families in to specific houses around The Green in Kings Norton.  Time frame is around 1840 - 1851.  Does anyone have any details of specific properties in relation to any other property?  Perhaps a deed or a will.

I have certain families located in certain groups of houses, but I'm trying to do better than that.   There seemed to be a lot of moving so some one must have some info.

Cheers

Mike

Shropshire Lookup Requests / Louisa THOMAS, Wellington, 1871
« on: Friday 14 January 05 14:55 GMT (UK)  »
Could SKS look up in the 1871 census for Wellington a Louisa THOMAS. She would be about 7 years old?  There could be a sister Anne or Annie as well.  I think the father was a James THOMAS.

If I have the right family James could be a carter or coal merchant, possibly born in Kent.

After Louisa is married in Knaresborough, Yorkshire to Arthur HANDS, she turns up in Wellington to have her first child in 1886, in Mill Bank.  I'm guessing to be close to mum.

Thanks in advance

Mike

Staffordshire / Leah Townshend or Leah Townsend
« on: Friday 14 January 05 14:30 GMT (UK)  »
Leah was born on the 24th May 1856. Daughter of John TOWNSHEND (or TOWNSEND) and Emma BATTY (or BATTE).  The address at that time was Mathew Street, Wolverhampton.

After John died Emma married John HUMPREYS (later to become HUMPHRIES).  In the 1861 census Leah is Leah Townsend HUMPHRIES.

Does anyone know what happened to this young girl, please?

Hi folks,

Could SKS look up a Samuel PICKFORD.  He should be in Hyde, with an approximately aged daughter of 12 years, Mary.

Cheers

Worcestershire Lookup Requests / Any HANDS in Worcestershire
« on: Saturday 08 January 05 17:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Folks,

I have a number of branches to my HANDS tree, in Redditch, Tardebigge, Bromsgrove, & Kings Norton - as well as foreign places like Birmingham and South Africa.  :)  Although not all my research, my main line goes back to about 1580.

I also have a number of trees of other HANDS families - can be very complicated to sort out sometimes.

If any body has any interest at all in HANDS I would be willing to help in any way I can.

Mike
