Hi, Regarding St. Mary, Kirkdale, West Derby, Liverpool.  My 2 x gt grandfather was married there in 1871.  (The second of 5 marriages. Two of the others were also in Liverpool.)  I don't know why, as he had no connection with Liverpool.  Perhaps it was one of those churches that didn't ask too many questions... or didn't worry about the answers. Their son was born 8 months later.

Mike

Perhaps some one with local knowledge may know more.

Hi,

I think you are going to be busy.   :)

Looks like they were an important family of Herefordshire.  There's material at Cambridge University Library.  https://archiveshub.jisc.ac.uk/search/archives/80992944-1df4-342a-9d25-66d4da11453b

There's a painting too, image at https://artuk.org/discover/artworks/relationship.work_people.target_reference.keyword/robert-howorth-16565

This may be the estate referred to.  http://bvalued.co.uk/whitehouse/

And check out The National Archives website for 100s of HOWORTH references, probably not all yours!

Happy hunting

Hi, I'm looking for an old photograph of the chemist shop of J.L. HUNT on Conway Road, Colwyn Bay. John Lambert HUNT was the pharmacist there in the first half of the 20th century.

Cheers

You might want to try The Evesham Index.  It's not on-line, but might be worth a punt.  Follow the link to contact the holders.  http://www.bromsgrovebmsgh.co.uk/cms/worcestershire-resources/11-evesham-index.html

Hi Lisa,

Sorry I've not tried to expand any further.  You might try using FreeREG.  Put in to the search engine EADES: Joseph: 1750: 1850: All types: Worcestershire.  You should get 18 results.

Select by pressing the View button.  You should get a full transcription.

Try to match Abodes with census addresses. (Note the 1811 and 1821 census for Bromsgrove only gives heads of households).

Cheers

Hi Alfred,
Sorry for the delay, house and family got in the way.
Unfortunately there appear to be a number of possibilities.  The solution to which in all cases would be an actual marriage certificate, which would give her father.

There  are many trees on Ancestry with suggested outcomes, none of which are definitive. Here are the best of the ones I looked at:
  • Jane LAUGHER married Willian WILLETTS, Q1 1864 somewhere in the Alcester registration district, which covers Worcestershire and Warwickshire. The 1871 claims they are in Warrington, Lancashire, however  that Jane was born in Warrington.
  • Same marriage but moved to Dudley area
  • The was a Jane LAW in the 1871 in Bromsgrove.  She was a housemaid in the Collegiate School School in New Road
  • Whilst not excluding (3) there was an 1875 marriage in Hammersmith, London, to Henry SANDOM(N).  Worryingly her name slides to Jane Maria

So you see the need for a certificate.

Cheers

Hi,

In the 1861 census for Bromsgrove there were some extra children in the Samuel LAUGHER household.  (Remember Jane FRANKS died in 1850.)

John aged 9
Sarah Ann aged 4

Using FreeBMD there were births for a John EADES - Q4 1852 and Sarah Ann EADES Q3 1857.

Using the "All" selection feature there was also a Q2 birth 1854 and a Q3 death 1855 for a Caroline EADES.

Were these also Samuel's children?  Harriet had declared herself a Spinster at her marriage in 1859.

Hi,

I'm not sure how this fits.

Samuel LAUGHER married Jane FRANKS 10 June 1832, Bromsgrove.
Their daughter, Jane, was the last of five children, born in the second quarter of 1849.  Her mum dies 20th January 1850.

Samuel's second marriage, to Harriet EADES, was on the 20th December 1859 in Bromsgrove.  As far as I know Harriet had eight children none of whom were called Jane.

My connection to the family is via Harriet's 5th child, Emily, who married James HANDS.
