you would be right wiggy, as I think the heading says Colour, that date would be 1829, as we have john Ives  B abt 1827, you are right on to it many thanks.  We, just can't imagine what our ancestors went through

thank you wiggy, george, sinann, and redroger, sounds awful doesn't Mary ann had two children John Ives, and Clifford to a Clifford Sherriff, John Ives and Clifford arrived South Australia abt 1848, both married and had families. Does that word after John laing say Malamute. No information what happened to Mary ann.  many thanks for your interest

John Ives Sherriff is Mary burnett son, & what I don't understand ,  is she giving John Laing to John Ives?? in other documents Mary Ann burnett is a slave herself.-----help

Thanks for that suggestion KGarrad, have looked it up, all I can get is sorry 0 results, but it does give the Parish as Batherston on Joseph's indictment files, there was two othe chaps with him Robert Maggs and William Stevens and they are from there too. Looks like one more brick wall, but I'll keep trying. Thank you rainybell

is this any more help to find Joseph?? I sent to beyond the seas for indictment files, only real new information was that Joseph was from the Parish of Batherston in the county of somerset. He went from Ilchester jail to York Hulk, moored at Portmouth for 2 mths, before being transported to V.D.L. Any help to point me to where I could look next would be much appreciated
